You would have thought Kentucky's season ended last night with the reaction around the office. One of our employees has a "Former Kentucky Fan" sign at her desk right now. I can understand flying the flags at half staff after the Wisconsin game, that was a huge and bitter defeat, even as a casual fan, I can appreciate that.

But losing a regular season game in early January? Give me a break. Basketball is not my thing, so I honestly try hard to keep from horse laughing. I mean, what am I supposed to do?

Oh gee, we got our butt kicked in Baton Rouge? Uh, I have seen that movie many many times at Tiger Stadium, so cry me a river.

Spoken like a typical Kentucky football fan.
That is the difference between UK football and UK basketball expectations (low vs high) and the difference basketball gets in results. Betcha diehard LSU football fans would not think their was anything strange if someone displayed a "Former LSU Fan" sign during football season after they lost a game to UK in football. It would not seem strange to them because of the high expectations they have for their football program and because they don't except losing to inferior opponents.

Big difference between a UK football fan and basketball fan.. There's not a lot of expectations in the football team.. Basketball there is.. It's kind of like the past couple years of the football team just laying down at years end.. UK just laid down as soon as the game started last night.. Except for about 3 players..

"Former Kentucky Fan"

Bet she has "UL Fan" and "Enthusiastic UK Fan" signs in her drawer too depending on how each game plays out.

I am an equal fan of both but my expectations are different. Still, I complain the day after a loss in either sport but I don't jump off any bridges and I sure as hell wouldn't put "former fan" on my office door. That fan needs to grow a pair and realize that we aren't going to be the best team every year. I hope that this team comes together sort of like the 2011 team but I don't have high expectations for a 3rd straight final four this year. That 2011 team, by my recollection, mainly had trouble finishing. Other than the regular season UConn game I don't remember many piss poor perfomances like last night.

The losses hurt just the same for me in the moment but I get over them more quickly these days. This is blasphemy to say probably but I enjoyed the tournament runs in 2011 and 2014 way more than the 2012 championship run. It is way more fun being an underdog and making a run then having to deal with the pressure of being the juggernaut just trying to meet expectations. I trust Cal will have his team ready as he has almost every season the last 10 years (going back to his last few Memphis teams). It's going to be sweet watching a lot of people eat their words.

To quote Aaron Harrison, "It's going to be a great story."

I'm a fan of football but you do realize as true basketball fans, we expect a higher standard. Unlike feeble football fans, that keep on the 5-7 bandwagon under the ginger. Get the heck out of here. U.K. Football fans like you make me sick.

After a ugly loss, most fans say and do things that they do not mean. It happens to everyone. I lost my mind the other night watching the game.

UK football-only fans are a strange breed.

They truly are. The OP posted this on the football board originally as if most football fans are not also b-ball fans.

The football only fans have this sick inferiority complex...and blame UK basketball for footballs issues over the years. Me personally? I blame our lack of success on being in the SEC, lack of in state top tier recruits, poor coaching (compared to SEC opponents most years), etc.

The correct comparison would be uk dominating lsu at commonwealth. Ask lsu fans how well that would go over.

Lsu football killing uk football in death valley is as everyday as lying politicians.

I'm a die hard UK football fan and basketball fan. It baffles me that someone is one and not the other. like, for example, people that claim they have a different football team. Would you actually hang another jersey on your wall? If so you're not UK die hard the way I am.

UK football only fans are a strange group I'll give ya that. Half of them actually like Barnhart and he's been absolutely terrible at the football side for sure. Pretty wild.

"he's doing what every other AD in UK history has done for football"

Suck?

Never really understood the one but not the other folks, in truth didn't know the football only folks existed before I came to the boards. A UK fan since I was 6 or 7 and that was a long time ago.

Me either man. My father is from Kentucky and even though I was raised in Tennesse I've been UK everything from the time I was born. No one took the UK/UT football game more serious than me, and I never got to see us beat them until this last win. I was born 1 year after we had last beat them, lol.

If that's not die hard I don't know what is.

I'm worse in basketball.

If you are a fan of UK in one sport and a fan of another team in the other you are a total loser. Proud to be a fan of everything Kentucky and so are my Wildcat Frans who cheer for ball in all types ----> foot, basket, volley, base, women, and füt.

Also, the basketball side of our fanbase has a serious complex and hostility when it comes to football. Considering the success in each that is quite sad and reflects poorly on the side that's been winning. Why would you put down your own school? Shows a total lack of functional intelligence.

UK ; I've never understood any kind of masochism. Always* watch them but thankfully I have 0 expectations so the pain is almost nonexistent.

*time spent bored to sleep included

The good Ol' Band Wagon Fans,on top of the world when winning and ready to jump off a bridge after a loss,I like to see UK win too,but only an ignoramus should expect undefeated seasons every year,11-3 is not that bad,in fact under Tubby Smith it was wonderful at this point in the season and even better for Billy Gillispie.
Guess John Calipari could do like Pitino and schedule all cupcakes at home to look good, better to take a few lumps now and finish strong than have a padded schedule.

For the record...

@Tskware is a long, long time UK fan. Very respected in Lexington and contributes to UK.

He is definitely a football guy, but I have never seen him make any sarcastic bball posts like other fball fans do on occasion.

And yet you're still alive. I guess we BB fans are having as much trouble finishing as the team. J/K of course.

Have to agree. I was really disappointed in the effort, even more than the outcome, however, in the overall scheme of a 40 game season, it wasn't life or death. In football, I have come to expect it, and although as a UK fan I hate them losing, when you expect it, the disappointment is not nearly as bad.

If she posted that sign then she isn't a true fan. That's all there is to it.

If your from Kentucky, I don't get why you wouldn't root for all things UK, regardless of how good or bad they are in the past and present:basketball::football:[thumb2]

Have to agree with some of these posters. I've never understood the UK fan who only follows and supports one sport or team. And, I was not born in Kentucky but I might as well have been because I absolutely love everything about the university and state and support UK in anything and everything. I don't care if it includes baseball, softball, track, rifle team, etc. I find myself extremely proud of the UK Cheerleaders who have been national champs a bazillion times now. Just don't get the supposed UK fans who love football but have zero interest in basketball or vice versa. I've been around UK and Kentucky for a very long time now and just can't see myself not supporting any UK activity no matter how small it might seem. Having said all that, the OP just irks me the wrong way as he definitely is belittling UK basketball fans for no good reason and for no understanding at all. He can kiss my Big Blue Butt, far as I'm concerned.
