Basket Interference No Call

I was watching the Virginia/St Bonaventure game. At the end, Virginia fouls the shooter and a also pulls the basket down when the ball is coming off the backboard. The foul was called but basket interference was not. What is the rule?

As a side note, it was obvious that St Bona had decided not to call a timeout to set up the last play. However, after the ball was kicked out of bounds with 10 seconds left, they had time to set something up. (interesting only because I saw some posts that said NO coach in America other than Cal would not call a time out in that situation.)

I don't remember that play, but a shooting foul being called doesn't negate interference. From your description, sounds like it should have been called.

In fairness, the ball was not in or around the cylinder. I thought maybe that was the reason.

I recall (maybe erroneously) that just grabbing the net or hitting the backboard while the ball was on its way up was still interference. Yanking the rim should definitely also be unless the ball was on its way down after rim contact.
