UK drops to #14 in D1 baseball.

UK drops to #14 in Perfect game.

I don't really have a problem with these rankings, but the system doesn't make a ton of sense. We lost 2 of 3 to Florida, which was not unexpected, and we lost a tough road game against Louisville, which is also not entirely unexpected. It is not like we dropped a game to some no name team. So, it doesn't make a lot of sense that we drop from 6 to 14. After the Alabama series loss I believe we dropped to around number 11. It would make more sense to be 11-12 rather than dropping to 14, or it would have made more sense for us to drop to 14 after the Bama losses. Just kind of weird that we're punished more for losing 3 games against the best team in the country and against Louisville on the road.

We have not distinguished ourselves at all this year. Losing to Alabama and getting swept by Arkansas are the lowlights. Winning a series on the road against Georgia is the highlight. The standings in the SEC are pretty wild. Take out Florida and Alabama (Wow! That was a bad series loss) and 11 teams are within two games of each other and Tennessee is only 1 more game back.

Need to go 8-4 the rest of the way + win all the mid week games, and we have a pretty good chance to host again. Of course, the converse is true, if we go 4-8, we probably don't even get invited to the NCAA

What didn't make sense was being at 6 in the first place. This is a proper correction.

Being at 6 actually made plenty of sense. We were 25-11 going into this past week and we had a SOS in the top 10. Behind us was:

Oregon State - 30-6 with SOS of 89, and just 3-2 against top 50 RPI.

Indiana - RPI 26 with SOS of 126.

Duke - 30-7 SOS of 78. They shot up the rankings after winning 2 of 2 against Florida State, but they came back down this week after losing 2 of 3 to NC State.

Vandy - They were climbing, but had some losses that were very bad, including being 7-5 against teams outside of the top 101 in RPI. They were 15th, but the wins against Ole Miss helped propel them 5 spots.

Ole Miss - Had just lost the series to Vanderbilt. They were previously ranked 5th, but dropped because they went 2-2.

East Carolina - Going up and down. They were ranked 7th, but went 2-2 with home losses to South Florida.

UCLA improved themselves going 3-1, but their RPI and SOS are pretty terrible. Still, they continue to win, so they climb the rankings.

Texas A&M is in there, but they had lost their first three SEC series.

So... it begs the question... who should have been higher than us? You could possibly put us at 10th, but we definitely had much better resumes overall than the three teams behind us considering that they all played much weaker schedules than us.

Let's also be somewhat fair to this team... we're really just 2 games away from being basically right where we want to be and being in 2nd in the SEC. We pick up a win at Alabama and one at Arkansas and the feeling around this team is entirely different. Yes, that is a big "if," but the point is that this team has played 40 games and in the grand scheme just 2 of those games are the big difference. Those two games have us feeling like we're barely a host, or not a host, but if we play like we did in Houston and against Texas Tech then we most certainly are a team that can go to Omaha and compete for a title. The key here will be this team finding the mojo once again here as this season begins to wind down.

Would have been nice to see where we would be having a healthy Thompson and Collett

Don't forget about Texas Tech. That's one of the best series wins in the country.
