It came shortly after Cal pissed off Stoops and Barnhart about UK being a basketball school. It seemed like awarding Stoops that unreasonable contract and extension was to create a parity in pay for both coaches while neither was based on merit. Cal's contract was awarded when Barnhart was afraid Cals would bolt for UCLA. The second was awarded when Cal pissed off Stoops about the basketball school BS. A common thread here is that merit and reasonable reasoning seemed to be lost both times with the common thread being an AD who would rather just throw other peoples money around to make his job easier. These unreasonable contracts makes it untenable for the University and AD to have any expectation of control over these coaches and their performances.
