Wasn't able to post it but the tone of the article sounds as if he's leaning toward Texas. Could be wishful thinking by the author but some of the quotes sounds as if he wants to play for Smart.

Could be that will happen but Yahoo articles of any kind, sports or news, aren't very reliable and usually among the poorest written. Very amateur news site that nearly always has an agenda to their articles. Like I said, Bamba to Texas might happen but I would never rely or trust Yahoo articles for anything.

I was waiting in line at Kroger last week and found a magazine that had an article about Bamba. Since the line was going slow, I decided to give it a read. Basically the article was about where Bamba would be going to school. He was quoted as saying "I Love Kentucky and Coach Cal". When ask about Duke and UNC he said "I don't like people that look like a Rat Face, and I cannot see myself playing for Cheaters". When ask about Texas Bamba said "I don't think that would be a Smart decision, do you". So now I am even more convinced that Bamba will be coming to UK. Stop worrying BBN he loves UK and Cal. Also, read an article about a Monkey living in South America making $100 K per year dancing for an organ grinder. I will hang up and listen to your replies. Hee Hee Haw Haw!!!! I thought the article about Bamba sounded a little odd, but I'm convinced the story about the monkey is real.

Bamba's decision depends on his goals:

* If his goal is to be College POY, he should go to Texas (where he will be featured every trip down the floor).

* If Bamba's goal is to prepare for the NBA + win a Championship, he should go to Kentucky.

It's an article written by SBNation that is well written, explains why Texas is "nipping at Kentucky's heels" for Bamba. http://www.burntorangenation.com/re...-duke-blue-devils-michigan-wolverines?ref=yfp

Here's excerpt:

“It would be hard to place Duke ahead of either Texas or Kentucky and as it sounds in recent weeks, the Longhorns may be the leader,” Corey Evans of Rivals.com said.

Sounds absurd right?

How can Texas possibly slog through an 11-win season and bounce back with arguably the most significant recruiting victory in program history, considering the circumstances?

As you’ll hear from nearly every recruit that heavily considers Texas, Smart’s ability to cultivate relationships serves as the foundation of their interest.

The same can be said for Bamba, who starred on Smart’s Team USA U18 squad in Chile; a gold medal roster which also included a pair of Texas signees in Allen and James Banks, along with Coleman, whom committed in January.

“He's a good person to be around,” Bamba told 247Sports regarding Smart following his time with Team USA. “Not even as a coach, [just] a good person to be around.”

“I think the relationship Bamba has with Shaka Smart from their Team USA days has Texas firmly in the mix,” SB Nation’s A Sea Of Blue manager Jason Marcum told Burnt Orange Nation.

That article is nothing the pretty much rehash statements from yesterday from Corey Evans exedra. It's not based on anything new as of yesterday or today only educated opinions.

Eric bossi gave his educated opinion Evan Daniels has an educated opinion Jerry Meyer has an educated opinion. They all differ.

I'm sorry but there are a lot of nice coaches they just plain out suck. I wouldn't go there to win 10 or 11 games just so I can have a relationship with that coach. In fact if I'm a player the coach could be an absolute horse's rear but he's going to help make me better and we're going to win in the process sign me up.

Thank goodness Cal is neither a horse's rear and will help make him better and will win in the process while he's playing with friends. How in the world could a relationship with Shaka smart outweigh that

That's the Texas SB Nation writer. There is nothing new in that article, except the guy who writes for A Sea of Blue thinks Texas is "firmly in the mix". And what does that guy know?

Texas would have to be significantly improved for Bamba to sniff NPOTY.

Can't argue, except in Cal's share-the-ball system, you have to be Anthony Davis good to accumulate POY spotlight stats.

I bet Shaka promises Bamba that the offense runs through him at Texas.

If he goes there I hope he does amazing but Texas is horrible. I've been sick and tired of the Shaka smart love fest for a few years now.

I'm just waiting til a last visit. I trust Cal's closing abilities over Shaka. I really like Shaka, think he's a good young coach and gets the most out of his teams but how can you sell Texas over Kentucky, or even Duke for that matter. We will see how it goes, stranger things have happened but hopefully Cal wins out.

I wish Cal had a chance to coach these kids beyond the U19's. That could be three major recruiting wins for Shaka all because of that pipeline with the U18s.

The 19 squad is a nice boost, but lots of the players on that team will have already made a college choice.

I think the longer he takes to announce, the better it is for us. There really is nothing to wait on if he is that interested in Texas. If he waited another month until Bam makes his decision, and then picks Texas, then what was the point in waiting?

Has Shaka actually done anything worth mention since his FF run 7 years ago?
VCU was consistently good after that run. Smart never won fewer than 26 games while he was there. But...you have to start wondering if VCU is like Tulsa was in the 90's, a program that's made itself a notch above its conference competitors, so almost any coach can win there. They haven't won fewer than 24 games since 05-06, and that was through 3 seasons of Anthony Grant, 7 of Smart, and now 2 of Will Wade. Smart had the best of those teams, as he was the only one to win a Tournament game 3 different years (and with the FF run, obviously). Grant only won 1-the one over Duke, so at least he made it count- and Wade has 1.

Very reminiscent of the Tulsa run that started with Tubby in 94. Tulsa had 5 different coaches between that 93-94 season (the year Tubby took out UCLA in the 1st round and made the Sweet 16) and 02-03 (their last really good team). They made the tournament 8 of those years, won at least 20 games 9 times, and won at least 1 tourney game 7 times, including 2 Sweet 16's under Tubby, and an Elite 8 under Bill Self.

The problem for people hiring coaches coming out of that type of situation is, how do you know if you're getting a (young and still ambitious) Tubby Smith, or a Bill Self, or whether you're getting Steve Robinson or Buzz Petersen?

I'm giving Smart the benefit of the doubt right now, but I'd say he has 2 years at most to show he's more (young) Tubby or Self than Anthony Grant part 2, or Steve Robinson, or Buzz Petersen.

He won't be college POY next year no matter where he goes. That's probably going to be Nigel Williams-Goss or Dillon Brooks if he returns. If Bamba wants to get better, play the PF position he wants to play, and be ready to play right away in the NBA, he will come to UK. If other stuff matters more to him, he won't. He just might not want the spotlight that comes with UK either.

Reality? No doubt you are correct. Hard for a Freshman, period.

But Recruiting Pitches? When my son was recruited for baseball, we both laughed at the stupid things some coaches would say (because we both knew it was Flattery B.S.).

good point about Grant.

Given Grant's lack of success after moving on and Shaka's challenges at Texas, you definitely have to make sure its apples to apples when hiring these guys and not a big fish in a small pond situation.
