Bama and Zona finalize home & home starting this year

Hopefully, we can get some SEC teams to step up their national presence. I'm not sure if Alabama fans will ever give a damn about basketball though.

The Tide will be in the NCAA tournament this year , I look for this to be their best season in quite a while.

If Alabama puts a winner on the floor, Alabama fans will get involved just as UK football fans are doing.
UK Football fans are historically better and more loyal fans than most SEC schools in FOOTBALL (save maybe USC).

There's no way you just made that comparison. No freaking way.

No. Look, UK football fans my be underrated, but we are not the top echelon of sec schools. Too many basketball only fans. 12th out of 14 schools in attendendence. And among the least expensive ttickets in the conference. I know we've built up this mythology of the Kentucky Fan that should never be blasphemied, but no were far from the best.

"No freaking way." Well, I guess I must be a buffoon. Please enlighten me: Give me the factual based "HISTORICAL" evidence that UK fans are more loyal that MOST SEC schools.

Yeah, quite the absurd statement. All SEC football fans are super loyal, most to the extent of insane craziness. I don't think UK football fan quite gets to that level for football...yet.

Agree with you all the way. That other poster has no clue. Bama fans will pump up their basketball program if Johnson gets them going. Bama fans will get excited about it and they will show their enthusiasm. Will it be at football crazy levels? Of course not, but it will still be pretty darn good, I have no doubt about that.

ON ZONA that is their toughest OOC game, Alabama. And they play in the battle for atlantis which is nothing to write home about

For the product on the field? No doubt we are the most loyal. We were nationally ranked as a fanbase during 2-9 yrs. Bama fans may be rabid, but "loyal"? It's easy to jump ship when a team loses.

Should be a good game for Bama. Win or lose, it's a big boost to their RPI, which helps the league and that helps us.

Just stop. Alabama fans are incredibly loyal. Your logic implies UK basketball fans were not "loyal" in the down Tubby years or the Coach G years. Get real man.

Honest question: Who ranks fanbases? I've never heard of such a thing. And I'm addicted to sports news.

Bama has some talent, but will get handled pretty well most likely. Zona is one of the top 3 teams in the country on paper.

Bama probably has the advantage at PG with Sexton, but that's it (on paper).

Projected Starters

G Sexton (6'3 FR)- top 5-10 recruit
G Ingram (6'5 SO)- 2nd leading scorer last year.
F Norris (6'7 SR)- 3rd leading scorer last year.
F Key (6'8 SO)- leading scorer last year.
F Giddens (6'10 SO)- Ohio St. transfer, top 50 in his class.

Key Reserves

G Johnson (5'11 JR)
G Petty (6'5 FR)- top 30 recruit.
G Davis (6'6 SR)
F Reese (6'9 FR)- 4-star recruit.
F Hall (6'9 JR)

Bama should be much improved. Likely to finish in the top 4 in the SEC this season.

This stuff is useless info, but UK is not ranked anywhere in football fan bases (that I can find).

Found one....that has us #50 out of 125 D1 schools. But it's the Bleacher Report, for crying out loud. Zero science or meaning good or bad.

To have the struggles we have had in football throughout the years, our fan base is incredibly loyal in that sport.

To be honest, I don't care about other fanbases anymore. They ALL hate UK when it comes to basketball. I've said it many times, just embrace the fact that UK has no "friends" anywhere.
I would like to know how Alabama has suddenly been able to entice good quality talent to Tuscaloosa. Hmmmm?

I've have wondered how much of our fan base would trade our basketball history and tradition for the same level in football.

Alabama has had some basketball tradition.
Melvin Cheatum, Robert Horry, Latrell Sprewell, Gerald Wallace, Antonio McDyess,
Mo Williams, JaMychal Green, Buck Johnson,
Derrick McKey.

But, no consistency. In fact, I'd say they've underachieved since Wimp Sanderson left.

Actually my experience has been the exact opposite. Don't confuse the babble on fan boards with real life.

His name is Avery Johnson. He played in the NBA and is extremely well respected at every level of basketball, especially in the South.

just do the math:

Take w/l for each SEC team home and away over a period of decades. Then look at stadium capacity, then look at percentage of capacity for each game attended. You'll come up with a correlation coefficient showing two things:

1 Wins and losses DO affect attendance in general to strong, positive correlation.

2 UK football attendance despite losses is a weak positive to almost zero correlation.

So you come out of the gate trying to dispute me by saying the articles linked are pretty "useless". I agree. Look at the success by those teams historically and tell me their attendance wouldn't decline with losses.

YOU originally said "Look at the rankings"...but provide no rankings.
Then when asked for rankings, you invent rankings w/o showing the math.
Then when I provided rankings, you call them meaningless.

Methinks you ran out of arguments here...other than calling people names and stomping your foot.

Where did I name call? Look at the rankings in attendance vs performance. In Excel , there's a RANK function. Like you said, those links are meaningless...esp BR because they took the word "loyal"and made it tantamount to highest attendance or most rabid.

We had 51,000 people for a spring practice off of a 5-7 season. I mean cmon.

As far as doing the math, I told you how I did it. You can do it and see for yourself .

Level set. My initial comment was in reaction to the comment that perhaps Bama basketball fans will get on board like UK football fans "are doing". My point is that UK Football fans have ALWAYS been on board. There's no "Johnny Come Lately" component as a whole to our fans. They've been through a lot more "thin" than "thick" and deserve our utmost respect from a "loyal fan" standpoint.
M We had Gillispie and Tubby ..sure, but it was a blip of time on the spectrum of success in UK basketball.
We also had the Bear--but that was a blip. Otherwise it's been painful.

I've said it before, but it takes some real balls to criticize a UK Football fan.

I NEVER criticized UK football fans. Heck, I've been one since the 1950's. So I've earned my loyalty card the hard way.

But I do think it is ludicrous to suggest we are more loyal to football than 'MOST' SEC teams. Peace. I'm done...

It's all about winning. All fans become fans of other sports when a program sees success.
