Elaine Reese, mom to UK QB Reese Phillips, says on Facebook she's on the way to Lexington because Reese ruptured his Achilles today.

ouch. don't think that would be better in time for the '15 season. going through an SEC sched with only 2 scholly qb's is frightening.

Depends. A "strain" by definition is a tear to some degree. If he tore it a little, he'll be done for the Spring but may be able to nurse it through next season. If it's a large enough tear, he's looking at surgery.......possibly a medical RS.

Let's hope he is back by fall camp. On the bright side, Towles and Barker could benefit from the extra reps in the spring.

Don't know if I've heard of anybody playing 6 mos after an Achilles rupture. Stoops needs to look for an unsigned JUCO QB. Getting thru the season with only 2 healthy QBs is extremely unlikely.

Hate that for the kid...

He has the talent to compete for the job and at the very least be a serviceable back up and get some snaps here and there...

if he ends up missing significant time I think his fate is sealed, and that he will be buried behind Towles and Barker...if he has any desire to see the field I think transferring will become more likely next year...

Hope it's nothing major and he can see the field before fall ball. He seemed like a good guy. Hate that happened to him.

Isn't this what has held back Josh Clemons for almost two years now?

The Achilles injury just added to Clemons woes. His initial injury was to his knee then he reinjured it followed by the Achilles rupture....I think.

How are we "numbers" wise, can we add one?

Not that another QB wouldn't be good, but don't we have the walk-on from Louisville?

Also, this shows why getting a QB every year is a dang near necessity.

JUCO guy would be older, better developed and more experienced than a HS walk-on. There are guys out there but they're a gamble. It really puts UK in a tough situation. As UK moves forward with building a program one thing that's a must is to have better luck re injuries. Of course, that's a crap shoot.

If its a full tear its probably a longer rehab than an ACL now. Signing a quality JUCO will be tough now, with Towles being a returning starter with 2 years and the heir apparent being a RSfrosh, they want a chance to play and not looking to come in and be 3rd string.

any 5th year graduating qbs who could transfer and be immediately eligible are gonna be getting a phone call from UK this week

Very very sad news. I just don't see the kid ever taking another meaningful snap for UK.

I predicted the same for Clemons and Smith when they each were injured. Sadly, was correct both times. Hopefully I'm wrong this time.

"Rupture" as I understand it, tends to be worst-case scenario. I know it's not overly reliable, but here's some info:

Would be hard to do. I imagine the staff were expecting Mattingly might develop over time vs. a more-immediately ready signee. But he's probably as good a 3rd option as they will likely have.

We did last season. The only times we haven't is when the OLine has been bad or next to horrible. So I wouldn't call it extremely unlikely to make it with 2 healthy QBs and we've seen a lot of teams do it, we just can't run Towles a lot.

I'm not going to count Phillips out just yet. Reese was never known for his blazing speed, he was known as the most accurate passer of the bunch. Clemons was at a position where the injury would affect his speed and performance. Max had shoulder surgery which was going to affect him more as a pocket passer and then both he and Clemons got recruited over. I'd say
Reese has a very good chance at returning to UK eventually. May take a while, but I don't doubt it.

Thankyou everyone for the love and prayers. The love has truly been felt. I'll be just fine let's go get some W's. #BBN

I agree he will recover. But he just won't have potential for playing time at all. Towles and Barker will both be ahead of him. We'll almost certainly take a highly rated QB this cycle.

At very best he'll backup Barker for one season. I just don't think he'll stay on board If that's his best case scenario. He just won't see the field.

He is from the Chattanooga Tn area, I wasn't aware of that, and they just did a little update on his injury on the news tonight. . Said he was definitely out for spring but was hoping to be ready by fall practice. That would be some good news for you guys.

The guy that fits that description to a T is Braxton Miller, former tOSU starter. However, very unlikely to happen IMO. Since it is his last year of eligibility he will likely find a team that needs a starter, not a back up.

Peace

Bama, FSU and AU already come up with that plan and he said he was staying. But the right offer comes alone that could change.

He won't find a better fit than Auburn.

Peace

Urban has his kids brainwashed. Talked cardale out of declaring. Now talking Miller into staying too.

Very selfish statement after national championship game to state that none of his kids were leaving early.

No, he isn't. He is currently San Diego State's starting QB. He would have certainly been a more than capable 3rd string guy here.

Can't believe I missed that. Don't recall seeing a thread on it at the time. Looked it up and he announced mid Jan. Same time we had all the decommits, so I guess that was the bigger news.
