looking at King and some of the incoming running backs, I wonder how much we'll see our backs lined up in the slot position? I would bet that the RB's catch more than a few passes this season. Can't wait until the first game.

Running backs catch a lot of passes in our offense every year. This gets the ball into the running back's hands with a chance to run on the edge after the catch and beat slower defenders. Boom and King are cut out to do this. I expect Coach Dawson to use every trick in the book to get extra high value touches for Boom.

Maybe ever now and then you will see a RB shift to the slot or (more likely) motion out but an RB in the slot is not likely to be a regular occurrence. If you were going to frequently move an RB to the slot why not just sub in a true WR who is would be a more versatile threat at that position? JMO.

Not sure they would move them to the slot, but can see Dawson having some plays to get them in open space. This can still be done out of the backfield. Swing pass is basically an extension of the run game. Just puts the back on the edge and. Puts him in space. Can also see them getting them on backers in space. With King being similar to Boom it's a weapon you would want to use. I really like our versatility with our skill guys. Puts a lot of pressure on a defense.

I expect the RB's to split out wide quite a bit of the time and be utilized in the tunnel and bubble screen game. During every other passing play we have, if there is a RB in the backfield they will be out in a pattern in the flat, the curl zone or on a wheel route unless they are required to stay in a block. Keeping a back in to block is counterproductive IMO as a back releasing with a pass floated over the incoming rusher puts the defender in a bad spot so I don't expect our backs to have to pass block in a lot of situations.

I don't think we threw to our backs much at all in the past. Not near enough for me.

Playmakers have to touch the ball. The more the merrier. We have quite a few this year. I can see us giving defenses a fit. King is super quick and fast. Speed kills.

I guess the idea of creating mismatches increases the chance for a big play. Sliding Boom, King or Kemp to the slot puts a lot of

WVU used quite a bit of two back sets and would motion one to the flat behind the QB on the snap. King will be used a lot as the second back because of his pass catching ability. I also think he lines up in the slot and run some jet sweeps from time to time.
