Very happy about us getting Wenyen Gabriel! Now we all turn our attention to Fox and Monk.
Where would this backcourt rank during the Coach Cal era?

Would be an awesome duo, as both can create their own shot.

He would probably be the #1 left handed point guard of the Cal era.

Monk...good lord. Like watching Wall's mix tape but with a pure jump shot. A little combo of wall and knight.
I want one.

I'd have to wait and see how they play before I know where they rank amongst Cal's backcourts. But they would have more talent than any backcourt in the country next year.

Best backcourt Cal's had when they announce. It's why he's so excited and calls it "his best class ever"--guards run college basketball and these 2 are not just great--but compliment each other's game and can influence game on both ends. Fox is an elite defender and Monk has potential to be as well. Throw in the Mulder/Matthews duo off bench and length/quickness and shooting/scoring is there that you need as well.

Still a few tricks up the sleeve of UK too in recruiting. Let's just say a few rumors out there that Nike has taken DeAndre Ayton away from UA and keep an eye on this one.

Great thing about Monk is that he is a good jump shooter to go along with that crazy athleticism. Hopefully this will be a easy decision for him especially with the Crap that is going on with the Arkansas basketball program right now.

That's the thing for me too. How many guys are crazy athletic, quick, great ball handlers, and can't shoot a lick? It seems like there's a handful every year. I want the kid that can hit the outside shot so they have to guard him and he blows by you or hits the shot if you give him too much cushion.

Monk is 6'3 and still has to worry about bonking his head on the rim on a pretty significant fraction of his dunks - Haven't had a guard like that in a while.

That Ayton tidbit is big news. That happens (along with a reclass), and this next class could be other-worldly.

In terms of athleticism it looks like a Wall/Bledsoe caliber backcourt. Not as good, as I don't think either player is as good as Wall, but at least in the same conversation.

Could Ayton reclass?

True but I think both are potentially better than Bledsoe. Both are better shooters than either Wall or Bledsoe. But yeah, Wall was unmatched overall.

Monk looks like a once every 5 years or so kinda guard. Sometimes it is obvious when a guy has "IT" and that kid does. Fox looks quick and under control. He still looks like a kid though. What I didn't like about his video is that he is point guard and I didn't see any footage showing his ability to distribute.

Yeah but that doesn't make for as good a highlight video as dunks and 360 lay ups. Jerry Meyer (TIFWIW) compared him, Smith, and Simmons as point guards. He had Fox as the best passer & best court vision of the 3.

Ayton would have to work overtime in order to reclassify...possibly more than that.

Led the Nike EYBL in assists (and steals, BTW). They may not have shown it in that mixtape, but he did it all spring and summer.

I'd put Fox/Monk as the 2nd best back court during Cal's era... would push Wall/Bledsoe for the top spot.

I'd rank em coming out of high school:

1. Wall
2. Fox
3. Monk
4. Bledsoe

Disagree due to how Wall and Bledsoe couldn't shoot great . FOX and Monk have it all . Monk is the best guard I have laid eyes on in HS in a while .

And so you would place them before Wall?
I'm sorry I quoted your post and it's too late to delete the evidence.

If this isn't based solely on athleticism, does anybody else think that Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray could jump into the discussion for top backcourt? This group may just have the best intangibles and overall feel for the game. Obviously have not seen how they have jelled yet, but I think this group could lead to a lot of easy baskets for our bigs and plenty of lobs. What do you guys think?

I'll take the backcourt with Jamal Murray. .. Basketball is more than just being athletic, because if anyone watched what Murray has done against top level USA talent and some grown Men in the PanAms won't be surprised with how Great he will be at UK...

I am noticing some of our fans like to set themselves up for disappointment because they scout these kids based on their YouTube mixed tapes it seems...

Weird, but as I think about it, this team is possibly more athletic than last year, outside of Willie. He was a freak sometimes. But athletically, Skal is a step up from Towns and a mile up from Dakari. I love the twins as much as anyone but Mulder/Matthews are superior athletically. Booker was sneaky athletic but Murray may be a step up there too.

I think this backcourt could be the best duo we have had at Kentucky under Cal. Don't get me wrong. Wall and Bledsoe are a Badass duo, but let's be honest. Bledsoe played great here at Kentucky, but he's shown more in the NBA and that fact alone is clouding some UK fans judgement on the backcourt. Bledsoe wasn't even really a SG. He had to play there only for the fact there wasn't another player in college basketball that could have stole his starting job at PG. Wall was a complete beast while playing here at Kentucky. Some might not agree, but I feel like Bledsoe's best position on the floor and had Wall not been KY's starting PG, he would have looked even better and showed out more. Fox is the pure point who looks like a sure OneNDone. Monk looks like a pure scoring guard who can score from anywhere on the court and is deadly from 3. I think these two kids compliment each others game more so than Wall and Bledsoe. With Wall and Bledsoe, you had the Freak elite pg and the second tier of best guards. With Fox and Monk, I think both are in the elite type of talent at their positions on the floor. Will they live up to the hype? Who knows...I guess we will find out. If I had to guess, I would say yes. None of this is meant to talk trash about Bledsoe. I loved that kids game and think he's a even better NBA talent than college.

Fox and Monk would be an amazing backcourt. They can both handle, shoot, and score. They have pretty good size.

I really hope that they both end up at UK.

I think Ullis, Murray and Briscoe could be a pretty good backcourt. Even if it was Murray and Briscoe just by themselves could be pretty good. I know we like to get ahead of ourselves as UK fans but I'm pretty excited about the backcourt we have coming in this year.

I'm with ya...Both are better shooters than Wall and lil Bled bled. Monk is an outstanding shooter.

I haven't seen either in person but I like both Monk and Fox. I would love both here, but if I had to choose just one I would certainly go with Monk. His ability to create his own shot, score from anywhere on the court, play with ultra swagger and be a willing facilitator is absolutely amazing! That combination is rare.

By combo guard you mean he's 6'4 and thinks that might be a lil small so he wants to play some point to show the NBA he can handle pg so his NBA worth is more. Watching him play I see a scoring guard who can score from anywhere on the court. Sounds like a shooting guard but if it helps landing him then sure, make sure he knows he can also play some pg.
