*** Aug. 14 practice report ***

No Stoops today, but as he wandered by, told us he was happy with the offense today, particularly the wide receivers competing for balls. Shannon Dawson says lots of guys made plays but singled out Dorian Baker as a guy who made plays today and has been doing so every day.

Here's what I like about Dawson: he got asked a question about wide receiver blocking, and he said that while it's great and he likes the attitude and effort, it should be about making plays in the passing game for those guys. He said playmaking ability is as important to the running game as blocking. I like the emphasis he puts on skill. I get so tired of coordinators talking about blocking. I get that it's important. I like that Shannon says it's great to block, but that WRs and TEs need to get open and make catches first and foremost.

Tomorrow is "important" for the QBs, Dawson said, but he's fully comfortable with both guys.

Dawson says they'll stress passing to running backs and that those guys are doing well with that so far.

No word on if Boom Williams was back. Dawson says he doesn't comment on injuries and that's "head coaching 101, baby." Let the head coach handle it.

Dawson says the defense has "a lot of guys" being disruptive. Says he likes what he's seen in terms of schematics and effort from the defense.

Sihiem King "outruns people," Dawson said. That's the thing that first drew Dawson to him when he started recruiting King at West Virginia

Dawson says "you better have four or five" running backs.

Also says he's comfortable two deep at every receiver spot, and says he's not sure he's ever had that before.
