Cal's interview starts at 56 minute mark.

"There's no one on my behalf who has called the Knicks... I called my wife and said, 'Is it you?' She said, 'No.' I called my son and he hasn't called me back, so maybe my son had. I'm in Egypt and it's funny that I get thrown into stuff even when I'm out of the country...I can't see that there's anything out there that I would want to leave for!"

Would it really surprise anyone if Cal had something to do with these rumors? Not saying it's a bad strategy, but imagine Cal right now... in Egypt... with his FIBA players... some of whom are players he's trying to recruit... and he tells the team that he has to take a phone call with Mike & Mike to clear the air over a rumor that he's taking the Knicks job. I might be reading too much into this, but I just think about how that comes off to a kid like Romeo Langford. Which is that Coach Cal is such a basketball God that he's the first person people jump to when an NBA coaching vacancy opens up.

He's already a basketball god. You're reading too much into it. Just some no name writer/reporter desperate for attention.

Could he have had it done? Sure. If there was a reason to float it. I dont see the reason, seems like it would just cause confusion for recruiting. He's already known as a guu who could probably be president of a team if he wanted it. Why leak it out? Naaa.

Had to drive in early (4:30 am) from Chicago to Lexington today. Was surprised how big of a story it was. Every single show started with it.

Pure cal, got himself in the limelight when he's not even in the country.

The Knicks are catching so much grief for the mess that has/is going on in their front office, they floated this story to create a false sense of attractiveness to that dreadful organization.

Notice it came out at a time when Cal(in Egypt) was in bed so it would take a few hours before it could be struck down. However, Cal knows any time his name is being mentioned on the NBA level it's a win for him, so both sides benefit from this story.

It's easy to see what went on here.

If I had people that could look for positions for me, I would have them, on their own, to look at all possibilities that could be considered an upgrade.
If the interest was mutual, I would make a change.
Otherwise I would deny that I had made or had any knowledge of any contact.
Either way my name gets/stays in the media.
The reality is as long as Cal is successful he has options. Right now UK is his best and he will stay as long as it is. Nothing we as average fans can influence that one way or another.

Promote the narrative that you could leave at any moment to the NBA? I dont think so.

People just make stuff up anymore. They just use anonymous sources (could be anyone, anywhere). They don't question anything. They just run with it, because it will get views. Some of those views never hear Cal saying it's not true. I thought journalism was reporting facts objectively? Everyone has an angle nowadays. Never know what's right or wrong.

I thought most people had figured out social media and the internet by now. I guess not.

I'm sure it will catch on in time and people will learn the ropes.
