Both teams played inferior opponents. Both teams had big leads in the second half. Both teams gave up big rushing numbers. Both teams let off the gas pedal. Both teams had to hang in for the wins. I wonder if Auburn fans are jumping off the bridge like some of our fans.

And, no I'm not saying ULL is as good or better than ul or we are as good as Auburn. I'm simply saying the games played out similarly. In years past we would have choked this game away but we managed to come away with the win. Its a valuable learning experience for this team. We played a ton of guys who've never taken a college snap or a D1 snap, ever. We were missing Hatcher, Flanigan, and CJ Johnson on the D side. Am I concerned about the D? Yes I am. Do I understand how many young guys with no experience played? Yes I do.

Auburn found a way to win and so did we.

Too many people complain about how last night went, but want to dismiss the fact that it happened to several teams. Several very good teams, at that. Oregon played an FCS school that lost their star QB, had a similar game. Tennessee struggled a bit against Bowling Green, gave up a ton of points. A ranked Arizona team had a close game against UTSA, Stanford lost to a Northwestern team that hasn't been bowling in ages upon ages, Nebraska lost at the last second against BYU, Baylor played a weak first half against SMU, a highly ranked Michigan State had a close game against Western Michigan.
It happened a lot this week. Those aren't bad programs that struggled to a degree, those are all good programs. All except for Nebraska are top 25 teams. Teams struggle in week one, and really, UK just didn't know what to expect, on top of losing key defensive personnel this week. We had no valuable tape on either of their QB's, they brought in a brand new defensive coordinator, that doesn't happen much.
In week 2, we're going to go into South Carolina with a valuable learning tool, some tape from South Carolina against UNC to go off of, some experience under the belts of our freshmen, and one of our starting linebackers (more valuable than many here can imagine).
I liked what I seen from the offense enough to be confident going down to South Carolina. I also think our defense can handle South Carolina's offense if their offense is anything like this week as well (woeful execution for the entire game).

I get what you are saying, and you are correct.

However, SC held a P5 opponent to 13 points.

Many would argue that UNC has bigger, stronger, and more talented lines than ULL.

My big concern this game is that SC rushed for 247 against UNC, and they ran the ball 47 times, twice as many as their passes.

If Spurrier does this to us it could be ugly without Hatcher and Kobi, hopefully Flannigan returns.

I thinks that's spot on.

UL = ULL

I never liked a 3-4 def. The dline needs to take on blockers which is suppose to free up Inside lb to make plays in the run game...you also need stud olb who can set the edge against the run,and have a good pass rush, and be able to drop into coverage..bottom line those guys are hard to find much less develop in the short period of practice that you have in college..
Our d could be respectable with the right scheme..I really questioned if we have the lb to pull this off in the 3-4...I fell better about our dline than I do about our lb..
Stoops needs to either go with a 4-2-5 to get our best position (safety's) on the field,or go with a 3-3-5 in my opinion which probably stinks!!

I like Forrest but he just isn't a ILB in a 3-4...

P.s.I see a lot of talent out there, the staff just needs to figure a better way to use it...Need to go to a bowl this year is the goal..

No doubt, our run defense sucks ass. UK couldn't suck more ass defending the run game if we had Acme Alum on our lips.
