JR was driving and Kobe called timeout with 4.6 sec left while the bench wasn't looking for the to. Looked like JR was pissed! Any tension there especially after they lost?

Thoughts?

I think Randle will demand that the Lakers trade Kobe. In fact, I heard he will sit out until Kobe is gone.

The Lakers suck. They are going to lose a ton of games this year. Kobe and JR better get used to that.

To your point though, Kobe has more than earned the right to call a TO there. Better him to miss the shot at the buzzer than Randle...although I think Lou Williams missed an easy shot at the buzzer so the TO set up a high percentage shot.

Actually, the coach should be the one calling for a TO in that situation, not a player without the ball.

The shot by Williams was not in any way a higher percentage shot than what Randle was going to get.

I wish I had a view of Kobe to see if he was lacking confidence in JR as he drove. He clearly had his man on his hip headed down the lane. It would be interesting to hear what was said in the locker room by JR and their coach or if they believe Kobe has earned the right to call to there. I say early in the year he should defer.

I don't think Randle would question Kobe Bryant at this point. By all accounts he seems to really look up to the guy and trusts him as a teammate.

I can't stand Bryant but he's a future hall of famer and a 5 time champion. Randle is basically a rookie. It's not his place to question Bryant at this point.

At the time, I thought Kobe should've let Randle go. Would've been an opportunity for Randle to be a star on opening night, or would've created a huge teaching moment.

Now, I suspect what would have happened is that KAT would've fouled Randle, the refs would not have called it, and the end result would have been the same. Wolves 112 - Lakers 111

Randle likes Kobe, and vice versa. This is a good opportunity for Julius to learn from one of the best.

I thought a true leader would have let JR decide the game there. New kid stepping up but Kobe wanted another shot at being the man even though it did him no good.

I've been a Lakers fan since I've been old enough to keep up with the NBA. That has basically been the duration of Kobe's career. I've always loved the guy.

I HATED THAT TIMEOUT. Randle was bringing it up the court full speed ahead. He was going to make or get fouled, or both. The defense wasn't close to being set. The coach was letting them play it out. Kobe had to overshadow the team.

I don't think you want a rookie taking the game deciding shot in his first full game.

At any rate, it's one game in a full season. Randle should have called the TO immediately when he rebounded so they could advance the ball and set up a better play with 12 seconds. More time to get a shot or draw a foul.

The Lakers aren't winning anything. Let the kids build their confidence.
