Astounding quote from Cal postgame Arkansas

All he is saying is that he likes it when his team fights for a win. Because if you shoot bad and win, that means you had to do nearly everything else good (defend, rebound, take care of the ball, etc...).

Cal is not a good X's/O's coach. But some of you like to spin every thing he says into something bad. Yes, some of it is bad, but not every statement.

No, that's not what he said.

He didn't say he "likes it" when his team fights for a win. He said his "FAVORITE" games to coach are when we shoot 35% and win. He wouldn't prefer boatracing teams out of the gym to difficult rock fights.

It speaks to his mentality as a coach. He probably thought he was being clever there, but instead he revealed what he really believes.

"You know what my favorite games I love to coach are? When we shoot 35% and win."

I kid you not.

I didn't post it then because I didn't think it was significant. But the more I think about it, the more he seems pathological.
So what...I would have rather UK shot 35% and won 65-60 against UF.

The name of the game is to flippin win. Not look aesthetically pleasing offensively in a loss.

My god people take everything out of context.

Did anyone actually LISTEN to the full thing?

It was only about 30 seconds.
He was referring to WHEN HE WAS AT UMASS.

You can't hear the question being asked but given the answer it had to be something along the lines of did you prefer to win games like this (or something to that effect). He answered:

"When I was younger, When I was at Umass and we were shooting 35% and winning against Maryland, which we did I'm like that's the greatest game ever because it ends up being a rock fight. And now you figure out because there's somewhere along the line that's gonna happen. And do you have the warewithall to finish that game.

OP is on a war path this morning... How many threads can you start? Interesting that his post count goes way up after a loss.

OP is dying for attention. "Look at me, I can take one quote to copy and paste WITH NO CONTEXT INCLUDED and use it to bash our coach!! I'm sooooooo smart and not pathologically biased in the least! Look at me! And by the way, I've started THREE THREADS today hating on Coach Cal! Yayyyyy"

I love it when we shoot 60% and run teams off the floor with 30 point wins. But that’s just me, I guess.
We all love that. But it seems like if this doesn’t happen every damn game, then the world is ending and everything sucks. College hoops isn’t what it was anymore.

Mike, I gotta disagree with you man. That was indeed what he was saying. He was praising his guys for not quitting even tho shots weren’t falling and continuing to fight and do the things needed to win. We all know how ya feel about Cal, but damn man. Haven’t you ever been in a locker room after a game like that and had a coach say the same type of thing?

He said something like " this was a fun game for fans to watch , wide open , lots of points , but a terrible game to coach in " well change it up Coach .. man you have all the power and control ... tell Klutch to f off .. we are Ky are we are playing to win ... Ugo earned his time ( I WAS WRONG TO HAVE SO LITTLE FAITH IN HIM ! ) but Bradshaw and Edwards have not blossomed , have no clue whats going on with DJ , but he was growing and getting better . you could see his maturity growing . So we roll with DJ , Reeves , Reed , Ugo and Mitchell .. sub Dilly, Adou and Z as needed .. that team is pretty awesome , but we have to quit playing players who dont give us something really positive , 21 games in .. and our 9 mill a year coach cant get them together .. sorry Cal it was so not fun to coach that .. I would say it was harder as a fan , but even after winning at Ark I had a bad vibe about this team . Cal burying Z was criminal IMO . I dont have any expectations at all, we blow a game on Rupp arena floor , I was like " damn I gotta work tomorrow I wish this game would end" thats not BBN type passion . All very sad

If the last few games didn't teach anything, it's that we do not have an offense that can overcome anything. It's a very good offense don't get me wrong but we will have poor shooting nights. And then u need to do something else to get the W.

I'd rather these games happen now than in March. Maybe time to figure things out.
Every team has poor shooting nights. That's how Alabama and their all-american lost early in NCAA-T last year.
And that is the importance of Wagner, his getting to the rim baskets are more reliable than anyone's 3pt shooting.

And that’s a shame.

Sorry, I miss the 90’s, when we ran everybody off the floor almost every game.

That’s when I really fell in love with Wildcat basketball.

Now it’s a rock fight every game.

It’s just not fun anymore.

Watching UK basketball is a chore now. It’s something I feel like I have to do as a fan.

I feel relief at the end of a game when we win and depressed with a loss.

There’s just no joy in being a UK basketball fan anymore.

Here come Cal’s Sunshine Pumpers
How dare you be negative!!!
This Is Fine GIF

Yep.
This is why having everyone available is important.

It's fine being negative, if that's your thing. But it's good to have things in the right context. Taking a quote out of context and making a thread post is something to be negative about as well.

Yep.

Being negative is one thing. It's entirely another thing to take something completely out of context, create a scenario in your head, and then get mad at that scenario lol

He’s gotta be one of the most miserable posters here.
I'm now recognizing him as one of the most negative posters on Rafters and has been for awoke now. I'm not happy with Cal right now and hated the loss the other night but to take things out of context just to hate on Cal even more and and play to his little followers as we see in this thread. Cal deserves a lot of the crutcism he gets but I don't go along with just making up stuff for the purpose of hating on him and spreading false information.

This ^ is 100% true. Triple C is worthless 99.9% of the time but I saw him say that and it was NOT bad … nothing to see there.

In this day and age, with him dealing directly with people like myself here on social media who criticize his coaching, it would surprise me to do things during and before games to sabotage our effort to win. I know to suggest that is way out from "left field," and while I'm much more a realist than a conspiracy theorist, people in power and who are celebrities can become pathological in their approach to things. For years he's essentially denigrated the UK fandom, labeling many who challenge him as "Basketball Bennies." We are all well aware of that, but that kind of outward disdain has to evolve from a fairly deep seated dislike for the continuing attacks on his ability and, in a sense, his very being and his ego.

He can spin the Florida game any way he wants, but he was truly given a path to victory and then chose other actions that were not in any way playing the caards he had in his hand at the time. It's almost as if he had huge money on the game and decided fixing things instead of making sure we won. I am in no way implying he did that, but only suggesting that that had a similar effect to what did ultimately happen...a loss in the face of about a 98% chance to win inside of a half minute. His choice of coaching moves at the very end does suggest also that he and his mind is essentially useless when the real bullets start flying.

The Florida game, at 26 seconds to go, was so easy to win that even a caveman could have done it.

The way to win basketball is to have talent and not shoot 35%.

The days of being able to do that are almost completely gone.
