Tyler Ulis.....just named the new head coach at the University of Kentucky.
He is smart, tough as nails, communicates well with players/media, beloved by the fanbase and will have a ton of experience after he has finished his pro career. All kidding aside...It would not surprise me in the least to see that at some point down the road.

I understand why everyone loves Ulis. So do I. The kid is a tremendous, fiery player. Lots of people look at him as a feisty underdog because of his size. But the Ulis worship has gotten so extreme here that Jamal Murray scored 26 points with 5 rebounds yesterday and has barely even been mentioned. Being smart and tough is not going to get Ulis the head coaching job at Kentucky. Both are necessary qualities, and Calipari has them in abundance. But you will never see another Kentucky basketball coach hired without an elite record of accomplishments as a head basketball coach at another significant program. No Kentucky athletics director will ever again name a basketball coach who doesn't pass that litmus test.

Maybe because Ulis had 27 and 12?
That's why you think he will be our next basketball coach? LOL. Jamal Murray has scored 30+ points more than once this year. Will he be the next President of the University? Take a deep breath.

I wouldn't be surprised to see ULis work his way up to an assistant (possibly UK), and then a Head coach somewhere. Of course a lot depends on how long his playing career is and how long Calipari stays at UK, but I wouldn't be surprised. He clearly understands the game and has the competitive drive.

You don't think Ulis has something to do with Murray's success?
If Tyler wasn't so dominant Murray would be doubled. Can't do that with our backcourt.
Plus, Tyler gets Murray the ball in places where he can thrive.
Not to mention Tyler sets the offense, he IS the coach out there.

Jamal Murray is a great player but has not come close to demonstrating the leadership qualities I see with Tyler Ulis every time he steps on the floor. I don't think I have ever seen a UK player who spends as much time talking, coaching, teaching, leading, motivating and demanding from his fellow team mates as I do with Tyler Ulis. How many points he gets per game is the least of his qualifications to be a great coach one day. I am not saying he is destined to be UK's head coach one day but he shows some leadership skills that are rarely seen in a young player and it wouldn't shock me if he was a head coach one day whether at UK or another school.

Reminds me a lot of Bobby Hurley and the way he used to play. Ulis is a warrior and a great floor general.

Well, if not head coach, he could always run for McConnell's Senate seat.

Mitch: How come that silly basketball coach gets more name
recognition than I do!? All I ever did was become Senate Majority Leader and do that neat hunting dogs ad! :p

Governor Bevin: Don't feel too bad, Mitch. All I did was take a cool oath not to participate in a duel and I even get a really fancy office, maybe even more than the Oval Office! And hardly anyone in KY knows who I am either! Did I forget to mention that guy who just directs some tall guys to bounce a ball around gets paid about 50x more than us?

Mitch: ...............

I stated this a few weeks back, so I got the scoop :p Really though, wouldn't be suprising in the least but. He'll better than Avery Johnson and that guy gets multiple gigs.
