We'll all have new 'neighbors' this season. It's an exciting time. I hope we all get energized! Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham, wherever. Let's BOWL!

There has been a lot of progress inside the stadium. Looks like the seats at midfield have been constructed. Also looks like the recruiting room area is coming along.

The link has live construction cameras. Maybe not totally helpful at the moment (LOL) since it's 1am in Lexington.

GBB!!!

Construction Cams

When we were up there for practice two Saturdays ago there were putting the creek rock on the bottom of the limestone on the other side not shown....

Stopped in Lexington on way home from Indy. Drove around the stadium and UK's campus. My gosh, never seen so much construction in my life. Has got to be a nightmare for students and staff getting around that campus right now. That said, when done UK's campus will be transformed into the 21st century. Looks nothing like it did when I went to school there.

As for CWS, the online cameras do not do much justice to the overall scope of the project. The construction going on for the new training complex is much larger than I expected. As for the stadium, they have a long ways to go, but you can see the outside of the stadium really transforming into something nice. They have added most of the limestone on the other side of the stadium and it really makes the exterior pop out at you. Hard to really comprehend how massive of a project adding the new press box is until you see it being constructed in person. Could not see inside the stadium. The parking lot is a complete mess (potholes everywhere), but assume they will repave it all when they get done with the stadium.

One big gripe I have is how bad the exterior of the jumbotrons look. Just looks cheap with the painted metal with the UK logo on them. They need to cover the metal with something else that looks better and install large UK logo lighted signs on each board. Maybe that is in the plans. Hope so.

Was a real surprise seeing just how different the stadium looks now compared to the old stadium. Makes you really realize just how outdated the old CWS was and how bad the football program needed these renovations and new facilities.

Drives me nuts. At this point the exterior and generic KENTUCKY WILDCATS ribbon across the interior top are 17 years old. I guess they have no plans to freshen those things up a bit, but I totally agree.

It's looking better than Wrigley Field.

Certainly not before the interior construction work is complete...my guess is that it would be one of the last items other than finish work inside the suites and club areas. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict July 1st.

Per article published previously, the field installation contract calls for the installation of the new turf to be completed by the end of June. Company that received that contract is apparently owned by a former UK football player. Looking forward to seeing the design of new field. Article mentions possibly going to an H style goal post in east end zone where team will come out from.

I'm also interested in seeing further details re the stadium renovations. The renderings UK released in late 2013 were rather limited compared to what I've seen released from other schools with major stadium projects, so will be interested to see how else they spruce up the stadium and areas around it. They could do little things lime painting concrete headwalls around section ramps blue at very little expense. The ring of honor will apparentl be incorporated in some fashoin, so hopefully that is done well. With the Alumni Dr realignment and flood mitigation work, it looks like there may be some much needed additional green space for tailgating in the area of the blue lot. Will try to link some renderings floating around re same. There is a request for bids out for a small pavillion. Building in the strip of grass between the west end one and university drive, so curious as to what that will look like and be used for. UK's master plan calls for a significant green space/lawn to run through the red lot between the west end zone and university drive, but with parking losses already and expense overruns, I'd be pleasantly surprised if that happens soon.

They will certainly paint the head walls on the ramps because all of the section numbering has changed.

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like.

If you look at the Virtual Venue feature on the website it shows all of them being blue so I assume they will all be painted.

The walls around the field area is sort of cheap looking to me. Much better than what they use to have which was nothing, but think it would look really nice if they added the limestone they are using on the exterior to it. When it comes down to it, its not a major deal, but if UK is looking to spruce up the entire stadium I think the field area needs some work. Not sure if you add shrubs or hedges like UGA and some others have. To me, that is copying what others have, but I think VA Tech has limestone around the field area. Not sure.

As I said in an earlier post, the outside of the Jumbotrons are cheap looking. Frankly, that painted metal and UK logo on them looks like something you would see on a basic HS scoreboard. UK needs to be better. The outside of the stadium is going to look really nice. Those jumbotrons exteriors are going to be an eyesore. I am not sure what kind of material they can add to them (stucco, etc), but something needs to be added instead of just painting them. They need to install a large lighted UK brand logo on each board.

Has been discussed in other threads, but they need to add statues of UK legends around the stadium. Does not seem like it would be difficult to do. Cost wise, no clue.

Sounds like I am really nitpicking now, but when you watch the games on TV, the fireworks in the end zones causes a lot of smoke and can be hard to see extra points and kickoffs. Think UK should install firework "cannons" around the sides of the stadium. Seems the smoke would leave the stadium area quicker since the fireworks would be shot up higher and look cool in the process. Several NFL stadiums have them now. Miami Dolphins stadium comes to mind.

I like what UK is doing with the stadium. Seeing it in person the other day brought it more to life for me than just seeing it online. Based on what I have seen in other places, its not in the same ballpark as what Texas A&M is doing or what Bama and a few others have, but it at least gets UK into the 21st century and more future additions can be made as time goes on.

Notice this evening that they've moved the crane from the midfield club section to the recruiting room end zone.

Have to assume they are ready to put the bleachers around that area back in so they can enclose the new recruiting room and start working on its interior.

They are currently setting the precast walls...once that is done they will replace the risers.
