Anybody else not really mind IU?

This might just be because im in the younger crowd and didnt experience the bobby knight days, but i actually enjoy cbb more when IU is pretty good. Actually i could say the same for most of the other blue blood schools (save louisville, if they are even considered blue blood, i love it when theyre awful). I feel like when theyre all good along with us it just makes college basketball more enjoyable as a whole

Since they have sucked for the better part of 20 years, it is easy to fall into that trap, but let me tell you, Junior, there is no fanbase- including Louisville- that has more contempt for UK. All it takes is a little success and they'll be back to the trash-talking hateful bastards they've always been.

You are the only one. Miserable fanbase and a creepy maniac for a coach. Everything about that program can eat ish.

I don't mind it - they'll have a moderately productive year; Crean will stay on - get an extension maybe.

I'd like them to be just successful enough to want to keep Crean - but no better than a Sweet 16 team at their best.

I guess I'm right around the generation still old enough to care about hating IU.

I'm 35 and was born in 1979. So my first memories of my fandom were the late 80s into the early 90s when it was still a rivalry and always a Top 5 or 10 match up.

I hate those bastards. I was also at the Wartford game in 2011-12. And there later that season in ATL when we exacted our revenge.

I like it best when IU fans talk about dirty basketball programs after 5 different IU players get suspended for drugs, drinking or an IU player getting drunk then driving over a teammate he just dropped off.

i am that way about UL , i liked them before Pitino and i will like them after he leaves but right now hate them , but i despise IU as there fans are just morons . I know every fan base has those but like every IU is . Hell the IU fans here in Jax where i live are the same.

I hate IU and their fans. I however love Crean, not the way I love Cal but the way people love a monkey that rides roller skates.

The worst. Not even close. They absolutely HATE UK, but on top of that they are convinced that every win is a cheat, every time we get a commitment, we paid him, when we win its a fix with the refs and WWW and the shoe companies. They are one word: weird.

IU fans are the most insecure, uninformed, delusional, overreactive group in college basketball. They will convince themselves that they are going to contend for the NCAA Title for beating a highly overrated Terp team while shooting out of their butts at home. I'm surprised some of them haven't ventured over here tonight to proclaim they are going to take us down if we meet in the NCAA Tournament.

It shouldn't be an age deal considering the way that bunch acted 3 years ago after winning against us. They dedicated a whole section in there trophy case to that 1 game, not counting the popcorn box, commemorative cups and artist rendering of the game. Heck, it got Clappy an extension even though they crapped out against us in the NCAA Regional and underachieved immensely in 2013.

Does it feel weird to start a thread about your feelings?

I'm that way even though my father is not. I'm 23, and while I've learned who to watch out for and who to be ok with from him, it's hard to take a program like that seriously when for most of my life they've been a joke. The first IU team I truly remember had DJ White on it, and I remember him being an absolute beast despite being relatively short. I loath Florida a lot more simply because I've always lived here and grew up in high school when they were on their title runs in football AND basketball plus Tebow. Someone living in Kentucky or Texas or wherever might not feel the same way I do about UF, just like I can't truly comprehend the disdain for IU because I didn't live through the Bobby Knight era. You're not alone OP, except I hope they never do well. I'd rather teams like Arizona or Michigan or anyone from the SEC no named Florida do well than anyone named Duke, UNC, etc

They have one title in my lifetime, but so does Villanova and Georgetown and Louisville and Arizona and Michigan State and . . .

And they're pretty irrelevant now. In just a few more years they'll be 30 years without a title. Now that we don't play them, they're more or less off my radar except for some Crean shenanigans, which are always good for a laugh.

They hate us because we are what they want to be.
Although they will never admit that. The last time they were good was pre internet, and I didn't know any of their fans then, so I don't know what they were like then, but I know they are awful now.

I'm with the OP. And I was around long enough to hate knight.with a passion. I won't root for them, but it is better when teams with fans have good teams. It's great when Indiana is bad, but that's only in small doses. Hell their ineptitude has gone on for years. So long, that them spending a week ranked is the exception. This year will not end in sweet sixteen.probably a first game flame out.which would be about perfect.

Oh i am right there with you about UF though i am 35 . WHen i list the teams i hate it goes like this

1.UF
2.UF
3.UF
4.IU
5.KU

AS i said i dislike UL due to Pitino but since everyone in my family went to UL except my parents who went to UK it is hard to hate UL . My grandmother used to take me to UL games in the 80's and early 90's ( she had season tickets from 67-94) and those times i cherished with her now that she has passed. She was my favorite person on the face of the earth so i could never truly hate something she loved so much but i am true UK blue thru and thru.

I'm 29 so I can't really say that I hate IU because in my conscious lifetime of being able to watch and comprehend basketball(let's say last 20-25 years) they have been trash. So really they are irrelevant to me and you can't hate something you don't care about. I will say this I hate a good portion of their fans and think Tom Crean is a bum. However this year's team is somewhat fun to watch, they run and gun and Ferrell and Blackmon Jr. are electric college guards. The thing about IU fans though is through all their idiocracy I actually feel somewhat sorry for them.

Imagine this, the year is 1993 Duke has 2 National titles, UNC has 2, Kansas has 2, Louisville has 2, UCLA has died from what they were and UK and IU are the preeminent powers of college basketball and it isn't even close. IU has 5 titles and 7 final fours and UK has 5 titles and 9 final fours. UK has 1549 wins and IU 1330. You play each other yearly in the Colts football stadium and draw crowds the likes of which were mainly unheard of at that time. Both teams totally and completely dominate their conferences, they each have an All-American and what they think are future NBA Hall Of Fame type players in Mashburn and Cal Chaney.

Now 20 years later one program is still the preeminent power of college basketball with nearly 2200 wins, 8 National Titles, 16 Final Fours, still plays in Football stadiums, has an Army of All Americans and future NBA stars, and dominates it's conference.

The other still has 5 National Titles, only 1 more Final Four, 1700 wins, doesn't play any games in football stadiums, has no great players on the college level or otherwise, and has won it's conference only twice in those 20 years.

Meanwhile Duke, UNC, Kansas, Louisville, UCLA, and possibly UConn have all passed you on the list of greatest college programs of all time. All of that in just 20 years. Being an IU fan most just be bananas. Thank the Good Lord I'm a UK fan.

I'm only 20 so I remember the first time I was watching a UK game and I heard something about the rich history of the Hoosiers and their rich tradition and I had no clue what they were talking about, all my life they were irrelevant.

I am 26 years old and I loathe IU, their fans, creepy coach, everything about them, screw IU, I hope they smother in mediocrity for the rest of their existence

Have you forgotten 2012? In Atlanta their fans were unbearable. The worst I've ever seen.

Will say this: Crean has done a great job this season. We all thought they'd struggle mightily but they haven't.

May their scrotums rot off.

The OP apparently can't remember December thru March of 2011-2012 when Cream was protesting UK choices of venue for continuing the IU/UK series.

I hope UK never schedules IU again.

I really enjoyed this post.

I'm 23, and prior to 2012 I kind of felt that same as you. I inherently didn't like them because growing up I was always told not to like them, but personally I didn't really have any issues with IU other than their ugly warmup pants. Since they always sucked, they were never in the media for me to develop a dislike for them. However, Christian Watford changed that with one shot. The way their fans acted at/after that game sparked a fire in me.

^^^^ This is absolutely true. Trust me. I have lived in Indy since I graduated from UK and have had to listen to these bastards for 37 years. But they have been pretty quiet recently.

I hate Indiana and Tennessee both more than Louisville, but no one cane come close to Indiana. I wish a 2 win season on them every year.

I am just waiting to hear the talk that they are now a contender for a title.

I despise IU and their fans. It doesn't bother me when they wallow in the gutter.

I agree with the OP. College Basketball as a whole is more exciting when IU, UNC, UCLA, Duke, Florida, etc. are all relevant. It takes nothing away from UK. Cal is still gonna get the best of the best every year and we'll be in the Final Four picture pretty much annually. Sure, I think their current (and former) coach is batshi* crazy, but why do I care if the Hoosiers win a bunch of games in the Big 10 and get some attention nationwide?

They dislike us because the want to be us. A lot of their fans grew up thinking Indiana was the nation's hot bed for hoops. Imagine having to come to grips with the fact that the real hot bed is just right around the corner in a bordering state.

Let's put it this way. I wouldn't piss down their throats if IU's collective guts were on fire.

I have been a UK fan for45 years and if you put UL and IU fans on a tree of class they would be a root. I always hope the two schools lose every game.

You heard nary a peep out of them last season because they sucked.
