Any reports from this weekend ???

I wanted to go Sunday but have been sick so I didn't make it out. But my folks went. A few observations from my Dad.

~Riley Mahan played second and made a few good plays.

~Pitching looked really good. Hjeille and Josh Smith looked great.

~Offense was a little behind on Sunday.

~My folks met a few of the players family members and was told this team is closer than years past.

~Dad said the team looked better organized.

So, if Mahan played second who was playing SS? I imagine the candidates there are Zeke Lewis, Connor Heady, Luke Becker, and Joey Bellini. I suppose Tyler Marshall could play there as well, but he seems to be more of a 2nd baseman or 3rd baseman than a SS. So, who played SS and 3B?

I heard him mention Heady in his comments, he is a good fielder, but has never hit much. Maybe he will pick it up with the bat this season.
Zeke Lewis made 22 errors on his summer league team this year, maybe the new coaching staff can get him lined out.

Heady is hitting .189 for his career here at UK. Having a guy who doesn't even average above the Mendoza line in your lineup is rough. He played the most during his sophomore year, where he started in 50 games out of 55. His fielding percentage was .907 which was the 2nd lowest on the team only to Riley Mahan. Still, he did a good deal better this past year when he played, so that is encouraging. Hopefully, he can find his bat and keep playing some good defense.

Lewis certainly didn't turn any heads in the Perfect Game League. He hit a dismal .202 and committed 25 errors. So, he, like Heady, will have plenty to work on to really be a good all round contributor.

It is my understanding that the fall world series was this past weekend. Did anyone go? Got any reports for us?

I saw on another site that the Blue team took the Fri. and Sat. games from the Black team to win the series. Fridays' score was 12-10, and the Saturday score was 4-2.
I believe the Sat. game was where 2 Freshmen started for each team. It was the Lefty from Indiana, Thompson for the Blue, and the Righty from Louisville, Marshall for the Black. Also Pop got the save in both games.

Interesting that Pop is getting closer looks. Anyone have rosters for both of the teams, or do they kind of interchange them?

Saw an interview with Logan Salow, he said the veteran players were drafting the rosters for both teams that night ( Wednesday ) of last week. They played on Sunday game 3 even though the series was already won by the Blue team. Do not know who won that game.

That sounds like that would be a pretty fun thing to do for the veterans. I hope something comes out about the series pretty soon. I know there were some photos, but I am hoping someone was able to watch and give us a pretty complete breakdown.
