Any news on Tyler?

I am left with only a few connections but have not confirmed if he practiced today. Still think it's day to day and don't be shocked if he sits out the UCLA game. My guy told me its not a serious injury but coming back too soon might make it worse.

We can beat UCLA without Tyler and it would also be another good learning experience.

Cal said he was not practicing today. Would have to practice tomorrow if he is to play on Thursday.

Listen UCLA is not a good team , we all know that but it is tough to go across the country with a ton of new players and play your 1st road game without our leader. I think without Ulis we can scrap and fight for a win but it won't be easy . With Ulis I think we win by 18ish . Yes I think he makes that much of a difference.

I like the idea of another game without Tyler, if for no other reason than to make this team grow up a bit without him. Let's see what Briscoe and Murray are made of. It will put some hair on their chest and make UK a better team when March comes around.

If nothing else it makes them appreciate what Tyler does, hopefully that wouldn't be lost on either of them,I don't think anyone on UCLA's team is willing or able to stay in front of any of the three of them. This could be a tough one for the Cats, but if they are up by a half dozen at the half all 324 of the UCLA fans will have something better to do and leave.

UCLA was a Sweet 16 team last year, and yes we DESTROYED them in Chicago. However, we are playing in their house, and they are better than this time last year, we are not !!

and it would show Cal (and us) how much they learned or did not learn from last night's game. If they come out and play as they did 2nd half last night - we should be okay.
I'm not so worried about guard play as I am our frontcourt -

Wait.....what? You have to be a UCLA fan or just a troll.

UCLA is better than they were last year? They were 8-3 when we beat your guys down last year. This year they are 4-3 with a home loss to Monmouth, a beatdown by Kansas, and a loss to an average at best Wake Forest team. They also BARELY escaped at home against mighty Cal-Poly. How are they better exactly?

And with Ulis we ARE the #1 team in the nation. Sorry if that bothers you.

Look asshat, anyone who doesn't heap praise on everything Cal and the Cats do as perfect is not a damn troll, just REALISTIC. Did we win the NC last year ? HELL no. I have been a fan probably longer than you have been alive, if you think we are better than last year, you need to sober up !

with all due respect - don't think he said UK is better than we were last year. And the fact we did NOT win the title last year has nothing to do with whether or not we'll beat UCLA this year.

Yes, Cats have a lot of work to do -= but the point remains that based on the eye test to this point, we ARE a better team than UCLA. UK should prevail easily with Ulis - a little more difficult without

You guys should always want the leader to play on the road. We are a young team and against UCLA we need him. We are young ,we need him.

No sayin we'll lose IMO we will pull it out with or without him. But you only get so many big games and this is one of those.

"all due respect" ---- not a high bar

You struck a nerve man. Now the other guy is talking up how "we didn't win the national title" last year when that has no relevance to the topic of the game at hand this year. Great job exposing him for his utter stupidity on how good UCLA is so far this year, and by good I mean not very good.

The game is in UCLA, and there will be crooked west coast officiating, and we are not better than last year's team so of course it will be a tougher game. Hell if last year's team played UCLA's team last year again, they could NEVER have replicated that 7 point defensive half. Having said that, UK is not nearly as good as last year's team at this point, but UCLA is sure as hell not close to last year's team at this point. Advantage UK, with or without Ulis.

Of course I hope he plays . Why would anyone hope he doesn't?
I don't think that's what any of us meant - really, we DO want him to play; but ONLY if he is ready - there is no point in pushing it and exacerbating the injury.
What was meant, I think, is that it wouldn't be entirely a bad thing if Tyler doesn't play so we can see how Murray and Briscoe improve - if at all, and if the rest of the team can get used to Tyler not being in the game

In the grand scheme of things this game means very little outside of a good road test for a young team. Tyler is a joy to watch but not at the expense of losing him for longer. I don't expect a winning streak like last year so if we took a bump early without our leader it wouldn't be so bad but i don't know if UCLA would be the team to do it. Cal will do what's right for the player as he always does.

From a winning in the short term perspective, there's no logical reason for anyone to find a silver lining for Tyler being out.

From a winning in March/April perspective, there are two. Their names are Briscoe and Murray. Those two could use a game where they show the world (and themselves) they can walk on their own two feet without being spoon fed by Tyler. And what if they fall flat on their face? That's good too. As @docholiday51 noted, Tyler's value to this team is the best lesson Briscoe and Murray could learn right now, because his work ethic and approach can and should be emulated, even by two guys with the physical advantages that they have over Ulis.

Now would I prefer Tyler to play? Yes. He's UK's best pure point guard and best player. But there is a slight silver lining to the big picture if he doesn't play.

I hope he doesn't play to help team growth...of course if we do lose (which I HIGHLY doubt) I'll recant and wish he'd played. :/

Generally speaking, we know UK is going to take some losses this year. What they learn in those pre-tournament losses and how they approach them is really all that matters. I mean, we hated each and every one of the '13-14 losses; and yet, as UK edged out WSU, Louisville, Michigan, and Wisconsin, those losses suddenly looked a bit more reasonable.

This team just need to continue growing and learning. The absolute good news is that Calipari is the most proven head coach when it comes to this process. God bless him because I'd go crazy after a week or two at the helm.

Reading message boards, it's easy to see how the world has become such a ****ed up place. We all love UK, that's why we're here, and yet I see some of the dumbest back-and-forth on here because one guy thinks the team will improve if this or that happens. Someone saying something like that shouldn't threaten you. If it does, it's time to back away from the keyboard.

I hope Ulis plays. If he can't, I hope it turns into a positive as some of our other players learn to pick up the slack. If something happens to Ulis in the tournament, I'd prefer the team know how to handle it much better than they did in the second half o USF game and the first half of the Illinois State game.

I hope they leave him out. It will help us in the long run to have him totally healthy. Let the youngsters figure it out. If we lose we lose. I don't want any lingering injury.

I've been feeling he would be playing in the UCLA game all along and still hope he is. But, after reading this thread I'm now having some doubts and worries that he won't be playing. We're, obviously, not the same team without him leading the way and I prefer having him every game. The experience some of you talk about isn't as important to me as having our full team together and I feel Ulis is our MVP so far this year. The other two guards have been getting plenty of good experience with Tyler playing and that's good enough for me. Give me the full compliment of our team every day. As for UCLA, I don't care who they have lost to or by how much, I still think they could be tough against us if Tyler isn't playing, they will be gunning for us and we have seen how bad teams in the SEC have been able to get up for us and play way over their heads. We should have learned that from past experiences. Not saying UCLA will follow that lead, but they could.

Look here. Y'all that's saying you don't mind if he sits out. Yeah y'all are trippin. UCLA ain't that bad. Tyler has to play. We can probably pull it out without him but we need him to play.

Amen...i dont want him to sit out any games!!!! Normally it wouldnt be a big deal but the way most have him gone at years end we dont have much time for him in UK uniform

Seems you are having a tough time saying anything good about the Cats. That usually equals troll or just a grumpy old timer that can't be happy about anything. Does the team need to improve? Hell yes and they will. Just like last year did. This team is not as good as last year, but just look at some of our early season games a year ago.....and I bet you were saying the same stuff.

But in NO WAY can you say UCLA is BETTER than they were last year. What are you using for that measurement? Also in the other thread about Pauley Pavilion you're acting like someone stole your cookies or something, crying about how great Pauley is. Yes it has history, but UCLA fans in general suck, and besides the history its nothing special.

Matt Jones KSR just said all signs point to him playing tomorrow.

I hope he's well enough to play, too. Who wouldn't want him healthy? "I hope your husband recovers from his stroke next month so you can see if your son is mature enough to mow the lawn on his own."

Sometimes the angles get a little too clever.
