Hi,

To those who have responded to questions already, thanks.

NIU fan looking for some sports bar/over 40 crowd bars and perhaps a good casual dining place downtown.

We have Bluegrass Tour Friday after the horse farm /Keenland tour. Looking forward to it!

Thanks!

There are 3 Malone’s in Lexington. Each has a cool sports bar attached called either Drake’s or Harry’s. None are downtown, but they have great food and a good atmosphere. You can’t go wrong there. The Tates Creek location is only a couple miles from downtown.

-no sports bars downtown. KSBar is a 5 min Uber, same for Goodfellas pizza in the distilleryvdistrict.

-casual dining/bars: sidebar is a good spot, the break room(no food) is near goodfellas. Creaux(jazz/drinks) owned by former wildcat wr Dougie Allen and his bride is a nice spot.

^most of the dining options downtown are on the slightly more formal side of things. I like Le Deauville for classic French food...hit up Dudley's if you want to try a "Lexington Icon".

Enjoy.

Dumb question, but is there a separate campus town that has some decent bars, bars with food?

K-Lair on campus is tasty. Donovan Hall, in the basement has a nice restaurant called the Oak Room, at least it did in 1993-1994. And that was a female dorm, so was a nice place to eat. And I always liked the student center for the fish sandwiches at Long John’s. And then, there was the KFC Express in Blazer (also a female form I I recall correctly). And let’s not forget Pizza Company South or Central, serving up great pizza after midnight to anyone not too drunk to order.

Campus and downtown have grown into each other but are definitely different vibes and atmospheres for the most part. They're very close though. Bear and The Butcher has good food and beer selection on campus, Local Taco and Tin Roof are right next to each other on Limestone between campus and downtown but will def have a student element to it.

There are many bars downtown within walking distances of each other. I personally like Pour Decisions.

If you need late night eats, I would recommend Tolly Ho. It is definitely a favorite of current and past UK students.

On a side note, make sure you are open minded if you go to The Bar, Crossings, or Soundbar.

Second the Drakes/Harrys post for a solid sports bar vibe that isn’t just college age kids.

Tolly Hos for breakfast is good campus spot to check out. It’s full of post bar crowd at night tho. 24 hour spot.

Josie’s is the best brunch in Lexington tho.

Suggins is great, quieter, smaller, but lively on gameday. Best for an older crowd, not college testosterone. 345 Romany Rd, Lexington, KY 40502.

Much better food than typical bar and grills also.

I’m kind of partial to wichell’s but I like country cooking. It’s definitely an older crowd though. The Cellar is best for Sunday NFL and has best tv setup.

Highly recommend Winchells for breakfast. Eat at bar, have a few bloodys, lots tvs.

Really enjoy when we have a noon start. Typically skip tailgate and go there.
