Okay, this is just an absolutely crazy time of the year.

I can say now that it's very likely that Derrick Ansley will ultimately be coaching at Georgia with his friend Kirby Smart or somewhere else, possibly even Alabama or another prestigious job. Likely to be a defensive backs coaching position. We were on top of this before anyone and I'm only saying that to illustrate that this information is legitimate.

If it doesn't play out that way then, well, it doesn't. But that's the way it looks now. Football Scoop responded to a Kentucky fan that they're hearing the exact same thing.

Here's the difficult part of the equation: Derrick Ansley is actively recruiting for Kentucky right now. He's recruiting Jordan Griffin, a Georgia kid. He was just recruiting Davonte Robinson the other day and has been for a while (along with a lot of other staff members).

I'm not saying that's a conflict of interest because Ansley isn't at any of those other positions. But then you throw in this: Alabama was recruiting Davonte Robinson as recently as last week and there are some rumblings that he might be visiting Alabama in the near future. Beyond that, Griffin is one of the players that is most tied in with Ansley and has also been most in demand.

It's just a difficult situation for a Kentucky staff that's honoring their defensive back's coach doing his job responsibilities, but at this midway point in what seems to be a job transition it's probably a little bit messy especially when dealing with recruits that may or may not want to follow him.

In Robinson's case I know several other staff members are tight with him. In Griffin's case, Ansley is more instrumental.

Big Picture
On the coaching side I think Ansley is very good. He's a good young coach and I do expect him to be a defensive coordinator someday. On the recruiting side he hasn't had much success. He's recruited a lot of guys in Georgia, Tennessee and elsewhere without much to show for it. Peveto and Buh had/have both been doubling up in Georgia and the loss of Ansley as a recruiter would not be especially significant. Do not believe the myth of the recruiting havoc. In fact, if anything I think there could be a net gain on the recruiting side. Talking to a lot of guys and being really nice doesn't translate to getting a lot of guys.

UPDATE: Davonte Robinson just told me he still hasn't spoken with Alabama since last Thursday.
