Another game where an opponent shoots 10+ MORE Free Throws than we do

We can't play defense. Always recovering and constantly out of position. That leads to fouls....
Our guys get bumped or hacked or held and NOTHING.

Opponents FLAIL like they've been assaulted when we barely touch them and they get the call.

SEC Refs are the WEAKEST at falling for the drama and opposing coaches KNOW it. That's why it's happening this way. The SEC needs to step in and fix it. This is why OUR games last LONGER than everyone else's!!!

Today was ANOTHER 2 1/2 HR game!!!!!

They got to the rim at will and most of the fouls were called there. UK committed a bunch of shooting fouls.
Butler and Williams were mugged constantly around the rim/in the paint, especially in the 1st half, and the refs swallowed their whistle. Bama was in the double bonus with 8 minutes left and we had 9 team fouls to their 2 at the 13:00 mark

Our 4 losses opponents have shot 118 attempts to our 89. Also in our losses opponents attempted 97 threes compared to our 94. Officiating is a big part of it but it is also UK not being able to defend the drive.
Oh, I agree.

I would add that we make TOO many unforced errors also like turning it over and giving up offensive rebounds and 50/50 balls.

But the numbers are concerning, especially at home.

Good stats, exactly what I thought. Imagine our win column if it was reversed. Are we undefeated in SEC play?

I can't yet blame UKs defense for this, not fully at least. We now have two teams in a row, two different coaches, that all the sudden can't defend? One with a ton of experience the other with a ton of talent. What's the common demoninator here?

I can't be too upset on lack of defense when we simply arent allowed to defend. Do i think we're a tad slow for the SEC and that might make for some dumb fouls on our part? Sure. But this isn't JUST on the defense.

Very easy to explain Alabama was quicker at just about every position and they drive the ball on just about every possession which puts pressure on our slower players.

Our coach is going to have to make a decision as I’ve been saying all year to make this the best zone team he can make it Because if he doesn’t, we will continue to get in foul trouble plus allow the other team to shoot way more free throws than we do …now you can say well we can’t rebound out of the zone. Well, let me ask you how good are we rebounding playing man?

And to a team whose shot selection on the season is 48% three pointers. Bottom line - Oats played the referees like a fiddle today and Pope didn't.
They're also 6th nationally in shots at the rim. That leads to fouls. Nothing in this game was really out of the ordinary considering how each team plays.

We foul instead of playing defense, we don't drive to find contact. When that happens, you end up in free throw deficit.

We have too many guys who shy away from contact. However, not Oweh. Butler drives the lane, gets near the goal and jump stop, fakes, fakes, then takes a shot falling away from the defender. Brea and Robinson don’t like contact and Williams can’t hit free throws, at least today.
Our guys are on the slow side and struggle to guard quicker, stronger players. We will always get fewer free throws with this team. We just have to play smarter and find a way to make more threes.

The thing is five games in and we are the ONLY SEC team this is happening to!!!!! I understand defensively we need to improve but are we worse than every single team in the league? Look at the box scores of the other SEC teams and the home team either gets a good whistle or it's a wash. I went through six different teams and then I started just pulling games at random.
It was a decent called first half, Bama had two more, I think, called on them and Oats got in their ear and stayed there. The first 6-7 minutes of the second half was f-king ridiculous with 8 fouls called to Alabama's one. I love Mark Pope but he's going to have to get T'd up or thrown out. He's going to have to crawl up some ref's ass and find out why in the hell Nate Oates is having a running conversation with the refs.
