Could this reaction be used to negatively recruit UK? Would it resonate with a parent for an opposing coach to say . . . "You saw the reaction to the referee. What if your son misses a game winner? What if your son misses at the free throw line in the final seconds? What if it is perceived that your son cost Kentucky the game? Do you want him to go thru this?".

Note: I DON'T THINK BBN WOULD EVER TREAT A PLAYER LIKE SOME FANS HAVE TREATED HIGGINS. I DON'T EVEN THINK THE SCENARIOS ARE ANALOGOUS.

BUT, will opposing coaches use this. . . .successfully?

No. If tubby were still coaching maybe.

With cal, if a parent says something like that as a reason for going elsewhere then they weren't likely coming here anyways.

Cal is too good at building relationships with the kids and their parents.

It won't hurt you in recruiting but other refs will now hate you even more

If you've been to any sporting event - parents covet coaching loyalty far more than referee protection. Douche U bitches at refs constantly. No - no. who gets yelled at at ANY game you've ever been to? Refs...

The answer to your question is No.

The question about your question is Why?

You seem obsessed with other people being obsessed with Higgins, to the point of dreaming up nonsensical consequences you believe will redound from some people blowing off steam because an incompetent, and or corrupt official screwed the Wildcats.

Maybe the overreaction was unfortunate, but I'd waste my compassion ration on somebody more worthy than Higgins. And I wouldn't worry about it having some lasting impact on the program. I work in DC with fans of lots of different teams. They all agreed 1. UK got hosed. 2. UNC-CHeats shouldn't even be in the tournament so it was particularly galling to see them win. 3. Some robust harassment of an asshole who abuses his job to cheat a bunch of college basketball players is not the worst crime imaginable.

Perhaps it is a bigger story than you are suggesting, and a smaller one than I am concerned it is.
Fair enough.

Welcome to the board, John Higgins. You're a garbage ref with a garbage roofing business. Please leave our board and stop creating threads. We hate you and that's not going to change.

have ever considered the "reply" button? It can be used on the thread you already started on this topic, meaning you don't have to start an entirely new one.

Yes--- that's true. There does seem to be only one thread on this topic and its different angles.
No one seems to be starting new threads.

No, for most people it is a non-story. No one's historic trees got killed. The average college basketball fan knows that there is a lot of sordid behavior with officiating, incompetence, yes, but also guys like Higgins who is incapable of even trying to be honest and fair.

Even my compassionate wife, a Maryland grad, laughed when I told her what was happening to Higgins. She'd watched the game as a casual fan and even she said, "it's too bad, but what he did to those Kentucky kids who had worked so hard is too bad also."

I'm going to respectfully disagree that it is a "non-story". It has dominated this message board . . . and I am responsible for only two of those threads! :)

It is also listed as "Top Headline" on ESPN site.

Overblown story? Maybe.

Non-story? Nope.

Maryland fans should get it after 2001. Washington Post covered their hosing.

What happened the next year? Duke gets sent to Rupp and bounced in the second round. Maryland national champs.

Coincidence?

You've started 2

Sorry about that. . . I would merge them if I knew how.
I thought the topics were a bit different. One was discussing the perception of the fan base, and this touched on recruiting.

Someone just posted an "Official BBN Does Not Condone Death Threats" thread. LOL!

So if we are looking to eliminate redundant or useless threads. . . . .
