Jeter left the game on a gimpy ankle and didn't return. Maybe why they only beat Penn State by 10.

Jeter going down had little to do with the game being close. It was close becuase Duke couldn 't guard the 3. HEAR ME KNOW BELIEVE ME LATER - DUKE HAS NO PG AND SUCKS ASS ON D.

This. We've (UK fans) all known this for months. Sounds like Duke fans are starting to realize it as well. They were in deep denial. Sad thing is that some of them still are. What a shame. [cheers]

What? A team without a true point guard loaded with talent but not looking that good of a basketball team? No ish. It is what usually happens when you don't have any guard on the roster with a pass first mindset. I know Allen can score plenty of baskets. The kid averaged over 20 a game last season. Allen is not now or ever will be a point guard. You can't just take a talented kid and think if you put him at point guard he will be just as awesome. I know their freshman guard can shoot the ball from deep well, but he is also a guard that wants to score instead of getting his teammates involved. Its crazy to think that the point guard spot on the floor used to be considered maybe the most important position on the court, but now that Duke lacks one, their fans act like it doesn't even matter. It does. Many talented teams have not lived up to their potential from lack of lead guard play. Duke will win their share of games this year on talent alone, but being talented enough to take home the title? I don't think so. Kentucky is also a loaded team with talent. We have two, maybe even three guys that would do better being a full time lead guard for Duke. Fox and Briscoe are both talented point guards. Monk would be a better option than Allen or Jackson as a full time starting point guard. Unlike Duke, we're pretty happy with every part of our strong guard play.

I want to also add that Jeter going down won't hurt Duke's team that much. If we're being honest, Jeter is a kid that is not really talented enough to be logging major minutes for Duke. I'm sure K sees something in the kid he likes, but what that is, I have no clue. The only way this injury hurts Duke is maybe at frontcourt depth.

Just noticed they play again tomorrow at 1 against a ranked Rhode Island. I'm calling the upset. If Jeter doesn't play, that leaves them with ONE frontcourt player. Rhode Island doesn't turn it over much, and shoots the ball well. Plus, they have a junior and senior laden team.

Well the season is over for them now, just go ahead and forfeit the rest of the games, what will they do without him[winking]

Got nothing against you but you either need to shorten your posts, post less or learn paragraph\structure. Break it up, son

Yep, it's November and Duke now has four players out. They absolutely cannot be a factor in four months.

Remember all the guys Pitino tried to turn into point guards ? Carlos Toomer , Tony Delk , Jeff Shepard . It never worked out .

I do type way too much once I start typing. I usually browse and post from a smart phone and I guess I don't see how long of a post it becomes by the time I'm done and hitting enter. After posting and looking at the post from a desktop it would be hard to read without paragraphs. I'll think about that the next time I post so much. My bad!

It's way early and they're missing a ton of guys. I'm all for dancing on a Duke grave, but I wouldn't start digging just yet. They're loaded. Flawed, sure, but the march to a title goes through those guys this year.

We're equipped to do it, but we have a long way to go and a lot of growing to do.

In short, let's play more games than you can count on one hand and let everyone get to full strength and find their groove before we declare anyone unbeatable or fatally flawed.

Solid slate of games tomorrow really. If Jeter can't go the Duke/RI should be good. Then Taco Fall against the defending champs, UNI/Xavier, and NC State/Creighton. My post had nothing to do with Duke really but I'll be busy leading up to our game tomorrow night.

Yeah and I hate to say it but these early injuries and struggles could ultimately just make them better in the end.

Taco Fall? I don't get that one.

again...duke without all those players are not a top 5 team. lucky to be a top 25 team. not that great of a victory beating them now.

but has anyone looked at allen's numbers....16 ppg, but on 13 shots. shooting 35% from the floor and 26% from three.

Duke seems to be snake bit. They gotta be thinking like we do "Who's next", but for a different reason. Hoping for a quick recovery for Jeter.

ah, nothing wrong with it, you're simply a loquacious individual; I enjoy your posts :)
I guess, since I tend to be the same way - never realized some might find it too wordy

Dammit if only Frank Jackson would start sucking......
He is the one guy thats keeping them in games.
If you shutdown Jackson you got this version of duke beat for now.
Keep him under 10 points amd stop him from shooting threes and duke gets blowed out.

Come on Boston. Those are just stats. The important thing to take away from Duke's early season this year is Allen is so sorry for tripping that guy. And that other guy. And will probably never do it again. Until the next time he flops and another opposing player is walking by within tripping distance. He is so sorry

Agreed. One has to hope they'll be in some level of disarray from a chemistry all season, due in large part to the injuries. My intuition is that K brings back Giles by mid January (which gives K two months to work him into the rotation), despite the universal wisdom which would dictate playing it safe this year and sitting him.

Duke is still the only team to truly monitor outside of Kentucky this season. The key has been and will continue to be how well Giles plays once he returns. That's the biggest question mark this season.
