Is he still playing for Memphis? I noticed Aaron at the hornets facility already, but haven't heard much on Andrew and whether he has signed a contract or anything.

He hasn't signed a deal with them yet. Considering the fact he didn't play well in the Summer league, Memphis is already 15 man deep and the guy he was fighting wit for the last PG spot, Russ Smith, balled out, its likely he's headed straight to the D-league.

He got drafted, but its looking like Aaron will be the one making more guaranteed $$ + actually make a NBA roster.

Maybe he can eventually work his way back on a roster or go play overseas somewhere, Miller did it money is money, wish him the best of luck[thumb2]

Yep, it's looking like D-league for Andrew. I wouldn't have guessed it after last season. Aaron didn't really have a very good season but Andrew was solid. But I think Andrew's biggest advantage in college, his size and strength, aren't doing as much for him now. When you're 6-6 215 being guarded by a 6-0 175 kid, it's easy to bully your way around. But in the NBA, everyone is 6-6 215. Oh well, I wish him well.

Andrew Harrison
The Grizzlies acquired second-round draft pick Andrew Harrison from the Phoenix Suns in a draft-day trade. That the 6’6″, 215-pound Kentucky product hasn’t signed with Memphis by now speaks volumes about his chances to make the roster.

Former New Jersey Nets assistant general manager Bobby Marks raised the question via Twitter after the Grizzlies signed Hollins on Wednesday. Tweet: "The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to sign free agent center Ryan Hollins, a source told Yahoo Sports."

The forecast was dim for Harrison after his poor NBA Summer League performance, in which he showed nice passing ability and defensive effort but couldn’t hit shots. Harrison averaged 5.4 points and three assists per game while shooting 36.4 percent from the field. He fared poorly when attempting inside shots in traffic.

The Grizzlies are deep at point guard with supreme slasher Beno Udrih behind Mike Conley and Joerger expressing his pleasure for third-stringer Russ Smith in an ESPN Radio Memphis interview with Geoff Calkins. Harrison would need a spectacular training camp and exhibition with much better shooting than he showed in Summer League in order to make the team.

So, it really doesn't look good for Andrew as far as signing this season. Actually, another team, with more need at the guard position, may have to pick him up. I just don't think Memphis, with 3 pgs already on the roster, are likely to need Andrew anytime soon. His summer league performance didn't help. He will still have a chance to make the team if he plays well during their exhibition season. Otherwise, it's D-league.

Am I reading that right? He turned down a $550,000 contract?

Is there a reason a player would do that? I know nothing about NBA contracts so maybe there is a business decision here that I am unaware of.

The way i interrupted that was - He could've signed the 1 yr, $550k deal, but it would've been a non-gurantee + MEM loses its rights to retain him after a month.

So if he got cut in training camp, he would've been stuck with no home, instead of Memphis D-league team + the team still owns his rights in case he balls in the future.

Ok, so he knew that if he signed that deal he would've likely been cut anyway and wouldn't have had even a $25k salary. If that was the case, this was a shrewd deal by Andrew. Jumping after the large number only would've made it easier for him to be cut sooner. I get it.
