With the current trend of government and no trending to be seen in sight ...does soccer become the dominate sport in America in the year 2040 or before?

I'm betting he's a syrup man.

At my local HS they renovated the football field. Totally redid it. Brought in some great turf and spent lots of money (that probably should go towards education, but whatevs...) Guess what? They dont' even let the soccer team play on it. Said they didn't build it wide enough. Where does the soccer team play? At the alternative school field that is sloped sideways, awful field all around, and you can hear gunshots from the surrounding neighborhoods. This is in 2015. This is in a somewhat "progressive" town in terms of KY standards.

Sounds like my old H.S. They spent a ton of cash on football facilities and a new turf field even though they only had a few good years under Dudley Hilton. Yet the baseball team has been competitive thought they years but the coach and players have to take care of the field. There is a drainage ditch running through the outfield that is a danger if you didn't know it was there on a pop fly.

Of course, they will wear helmets and knee pads in 2040. Heaven forbid they collide with each other and get hurt.

How about we just make a new game called Sarcasta-Ball. We can just replace a football with a balloon and everybody can wear bras and tin foil hats on their heads. It will be sooo awesome. And instead of tackling people, how about we just give hugs to opposing players, that would be ideal. Everrrybody will juuuust love this game.

My vote goes for Tough Dodger.

But by 2040 it will more than likely officially be called Triathlon Dodge Ball but true fans will still call it Tough Dodger. It will have by that time replaced the archaic, boring regular triathlon in the 2040 Summer Olympics which will be held in Topeka, KS. Why Topeka? Because the state of Kansas will be the hub of the "new West Coast" and Topeka will be the "new LA" due to the disappearance of the entire West Coast and the greater portions of the Western US due to polar ice cap melting.

By the way...no medals for 2nd and 3rd place in Tough Dodger. It is a winner takes all sport. The winner gets the Gold, Silver AND Bronze medals. All.Of.Them.

I think Baseball will have fallen the most. Television has been a slow killer of America's Past Time it seems. Probably Soccer and Lacrosse the biggest jumpers. Although if the US team keeps sucking it up, I'm not sure how much bigger a "no one cares except for 1 month every 4 years" sport can get. Yes, I know MLS exists, but it just doesn't garner enough attention. Kids play the sport, because it's kid friendly, and then they move on to another sport when they are older. I think for Soccer to get bigger, the US needs to make some noise on a global level.

Can't see Hockey getting bigger. Rule changes coming have fans in a frenzy. They seem to be doing whatever it takes to be the NBA and it's pissing off their fanbase.

I actually think Basketball is in a good spot. Growth in Europe, Asia, and parts of South America. They could have a lot to gain with other sports floundering. Although, the NBA has it's own problems. Most would say we are in a dark-age of pro-game, although I don't agree. Change have to be made to the college game.

Dominate sport, huh? Learn word choice.
How about hitting the wrong keys ahole...
How about ending a question with a question mark (?) rather than an ellipsis (...), or were you actually commanding funKYcat75 to hit the wrong keys?

I hope you are wrong on baseball, pretty much is my 2nd favorite sport now. They know they have a problem with the length of games and they have tried to change the rules to speed things along. I know it is only one day, but yesterday six games in MLB were less than 2:40 in time and not a single game went past 3:05. And the Reds had the all time record attendance for a regular season game.

As for soccer, it is the game of the future . . . and always will be in the US at least. I will be surprised to see it ever achieve the kind of support it gets in Europe and South America.

haha- Good stuff. There was recent research that came out a bit ago that found that parents who over coddle their kids are more at risk to do risky behaviors as the age.

I have no idea better than the next guy. But Football was made by television while baseball seems to have lost it's luster under it. Nothing better than going to an MLB game. In person, I don't think any sport competes. But on Television? It's brutal. And that's where the money will continue to pour in.

Just seems like Baseball has been trending downwards for quite some time. Is that just me? I don't know. Doesn't seem like anyone under their mid 20's cares for baseball. While the baby-boomers love it. And this is coming from a guy who's from New York and spent half a decade in the Bronx, a subway ride from Yankee Stadium and Shea.

I take it as a reference to immigration.

Soccer will never be number one in America, because even if the country becomes a new mexican state, eventually most Americans get fat at which point you want to watch other fat people play sports, so you are limited to football and baseball.

Football is going to remain the number one sport in this country for a long long time. NFL is leading the charge on concussions. The concussion numbers for Professional, College, High School, and Youth Football were all reduced last season and I think this trend continues. Football will never completely eliminate concussions but neither will Soccer, Hockey, Rugby, Lacrosse, or any other contact sports.

Right now concussion rates for girls soccer is trending higher each season. But we don't hear as much about it because no one gives a damn about female sports. Biggest girls sport in this country right now is Volleyball and this trend continues.

In 40 years here are my predictions. I think Soccer over takes Hockey but it will not be in the top 3.

1. Football
2. Basketball
3. Baseball
4. Soccer
5. Lacrosse
6. Hockey

Watch for the rise of Sumo Wrestling!!!!!!!

Base on participation numbers soon if not already. Based on spectator numbers at the collegiate and professional level - never.
