Bond was one of the last franchises still standing in the DEI wars. I guess Amacrap finally made Broccoli an offer she wouldn't refuse.

Enter Jane Bond, the black, trans, lesbian that has a license to kill evil white men.

Wait, so we don't like billionaires today?

This will go one of two ways - Bond becomes very watered down with various shows, universes, and films until everyone is sick of it or we get some of that but maybe someone like Spielberg ends up directing a Bond film which could be sorta cool.

Also, I get the whole diversity joke but unless there's loads of examples of iconic characters being a different race or creed just because (and maybe there are, I don't pay attention to it), we're running that joke into the ground. The Game of Thrones offshoot was immediately deemed woke because there was a bit less nudity and a few black actors. If you're complaining that black actors are in a show or film, that's more of a you issue. But it is what it is.

I have zero faith Amazon does anything but ruin this brand. The only IP they didn't ruin was terminal list. Reacher started ok then sucked. Rings of power was saved by completely reworking all the dumb ideas drom season 1.

So no, I don't have much faith.

He's a bit too old now, but I would have loved Idris Elba as bond. He's a fantastic actor and could pull off the role of a kinda morally Grey Bond.

I still hope they go with him. He or cavill are the only two that will do, imo. I understand the call for diversity and idris is fantastic and universally liked. Would be an easy win for them.

House of the Dragons wasn't getting the "woke" accusation by people that pay attn. Rings of Power was because it was legit insane with changes. HOTD made some cringe changes but mostly followed the books. ROP basically did a patchwork of lore here and there to pretend is was Tolkien. Also, HOTD found a good way to do the race swap. It at least made sense instead of making you shake your head.

The reason you do something matters.

You’ll never see my use ‘woke’ to describe anything because it’s a meaningless word at this point. I’d be fine with the next bond being a non white guy. I just want him to be a suave secret agent.
Idris Elba's name comes up a lot and 99% of fans would not have a problem with him.

Jennifer Salke is gone. Lots of rumors about why but most agree that they didn't want her touching Bond. Her position isn't going to be filled. I'd say Rings Of Power and Wheel of Time get cancelled because she jacked them up so bad. Word was that the woman running Bond for MGM only agreed to allow Amazon to make tv shows if they made some promises... Salke might have been one of those.

Well it was (for the most part) a good run.

They should just let Jeff Bridges play the part "Lebowski" style.

"Your shoe phone's ringing Dude."

"thanks Donnie"

"This is our concern, 007"

Should add that she also was spearheading another show they spent like $350M on that I've never heard of and apparently not many other people have either. This woman blows money like it's free.

I think Ive read all the Ian Fleming Bond books and Bond in the books is nothing like the one in the movies. Fleming work for British Secret Service and lived in the Caribbean. and It was no accident that being a Double 0 agent gave you the opportunity to kill for God and Country

All of the suave affectations and foppish dandiness etc. were practically non-existent in the Fleming books. He was, primarily, mostly cold-blooded.

Of course it's no surprise that the novels have been rewritten/heavily edited, in order to make them more PC. Utter nonsense...

Here are some interesting banned Laserdisc commentaries from some of the Bond films.

I'll tell you what is PROBABLY going to happen. Bond movies are done. There won't be anymore theatrical release 007 films.

Amazon will turn the James Bond IP into a "streamed universe", along the lines of the Taylor Sheridan world.

Sad ending to a franchise that was a sort of cultural timeline/yardstick for people who were born in the 50's and 60's

For example, the very first "date" I ever went on was to go see Moonraker. I remember when my Dad let me stay up on a Sunday night, when I was probably 7 or 8, to watch From Russia with Love (Sunday night movies, which they used to have) and how excited I was. And, starting with Live and Let Die, it became a father and son tradition to go see the latest Bond movies as they came out.

"You expect me to talk?"

"No Mr. Bond! I expect you to DEI!"

Imo its a weird concept anyway. How many people are there without Amazon prime? Of those people, how many subscribers could even an amazing show generate? It just seems like the entire model is way off and didn't make sense to begin with unless they had plans to split off the streaming.

Either way they won't really lose money. They can just increase prime by $5/10 per year to recoup the costs and noone will blink.

All that said, it was very clear why those two shows were so badly in the hole. Wheels of time was unwatchable. Rings of power season 2 was much better because they stopped the complete focus on galadriel.

Turns out, despite what people said, ideology inserted into entertainment predictably ends in financial disaster. Whoda thunk it.

He's only a year older than Craig was (51) when No TIme to Die was filmed.

Connery was 52 when Never Say Never Again was made.

Moore was 56 and 58 for his last 2.

MI6 doesn't have mandatory retirement until 62.
Yeah but that's after growing with that specific actor as Bond.

Look at how old they were when they first started as that character

Lazenby 30
Connery 32
Craig 38
Dalton 41
Brosnan 42
Moore 45

Elba is 52.

Fleming based the character on a few British ww2 soldiers but among them was Christiopher Lee, the actor. He was Lee's brother in law and Lee had joined the swiss army (I think) at 17 because he was too young to join the British army. Then he flew planes for the British until a plane crash cause eye damage that grounded him. Then he joined special air services where he served in Africa and Europe without a lot of details known. One funny story about this was shooting Lord Of the Rings...
