Amari Williams

Amari didn’t play good . But so did play everyone not named Oweh…. I could think of at least 2 players that did worse than Amari today.

However, I agree roles need to be re-defined.. Amari body language right now is not looking what is supposed to be.

. .

Pope is aware of Amari and lackadaisical play but other than taking him out, there is not much he can do about. Richard Madison is another guy that had talent but didn’t mind watching from the bench.

Definitely the most disappointing player on the team. Expected more shot blocking from him.
He’s 7 foot tall and was guarding a Buckeye 7 feet from the basket in the paint and didnt even jump to contest his shot.
That is a lack of effort that is simply unacceptable at UK.
You may be able to get away with that garbage at Drexel but not Kentucky.
Bench his arse.

Me too
All we heard was how good his defense is
Where is it?
Even guards shoot layups over him
How many layups has he missed?
Very disappointed in him
I’ve never seen a guy try to rebound with 1 arm more than him. It would be entertaining to watch Cal lose his mind with him.

I think he is the problem. I think the locker room is falling apart and I think Williams is the reason. Also, apposing teams knows that our bigs don't handle the ball well enough to back their defenders down. Whenever they try, they get doubled and lose the ball.

He should dunk, rebound, and pass from the top of the key. That’s it. That should be his job.
The ball just sticks with Amari when he gets it at the top. To be fair it doesn’t look like there is much movement either. I don’t know what Pope wants because it’s been going on for several games.

Keep him on the blocks and post up or setting screens to get open shots, but guys have to cut close for the screen to work

But wasn’t a big part of Madison’s problem the fact he was 6’6” with no handle and no range?

Richard Madison was a first team parade All American with good outside range. He handled the ball fine. The problem with him was motivating him, sitting the bench didn’t bother him. Hall tried everything, nothing worked. He had all the tools, just not the get go to or want to to make it happen.

Master Blaster was all-everything coming out of high school, similar to James Blackmon and Brett Bearup. For decades it’s been demonstrated time and again that high school accolades don’t necessarily translate to success at the college level. Madison was 6’8” when he showed up in Lexington but similar to Winston Bennett somehow shrank to 6’6” by the time he finished at UK. Too short for a four, no range and no handle for a three or two.

They didn’t keep 3 pt stats for Madison’s first two seasons (he was 0 for 3 from behind the arc during his final two seasons), but he was 65% for his career from the free throw line. Those aren’t the stats of a dude with range, but to each their own. I don’t belong to the “Always a Cat crowd” but my pretty clear memory of college-Richard Madison’s skills/lack of skills don’t align with yours.

He had the talent but didn’t put out, he was a bust in college. He did contribute, but not like he was projected to do. I never said he was a star, I said he had the ability to be one, but he didn’t care enough to reach his potential.

I hate to bash the guy, but I haven't seen anything from him that would lead anyone to think he would have been defensive POY 3 times in any D1 conference. I can't remember him blocking 3 or 4 shots all year, rarely contests anything around the rim, and when you watch replays he is usually out of the plays under the basket. I was skeptical of his offensive abilities, but at least thought he would be a fierce rebounder and rim protector. Just my 2 cents worth.

Absolutely not. Madison had a pretty nice handle . His main problem was ,he was lazy as shit and wanted to party all the time instead of concentrating on basketball.
This is true.
I will never forget one Sunday morning in Memorial Coliseum for the ticket lottery…he was shooting from the corner, BEYOND OOB LINE, and making one after another after another. I was shocked, because Eddie wouldn’t let him shoot beyond 12-14 ft

I remember when his team came up from Tennessee to play Henry Clay in Rupp . My dad took me to the game . The Miller kid (think he went to Western) from Henry Clay DOMINATED his lazy ass .

He was a predecessor of Alex Poythress in my opinion. Similar skills and builds. Both were as good if not better as freshman than they were as seniors. Kept waiting for them to finally "get it" but neither ever did.

That is the way I remember him. Plenty of talent, just no desire, lazy....like poythress was
