Alex Poythress NBA debut: 24 mins, 11 points, 3 rebounds.

So proud of this dude. I will never understand why we didn't try to apply for a 5th year of eligibility for him.

I kept reading he was just ready to move on. He graduated his junior year. So he was in grad school last year.

I've been quite bitter about that until now. Seeing him finally get a shot makes that sting so much less.

If he can stay healthy, hungry, and interested, he can have nice career and plenty of highlights like that.

Philly has some nice talent across the front court line. Simmons, Embiid, Okafor, throw AP into that and they are formidable. If they can get an upper tier guard and wing who can shoot and score the ball, they could crack competitive and respectable.

His potential was obvious from the beginning. But Alex had injuries to overcome. He's an intelligent and hard working young man who deserves success. Wish him the best.

I will never understand what happened between the Duke game his freshman year and now...
Uh he was great in the tourney run in 2014. Just amazing. He did all the little things. But once he got injured he was never the same at UK. He is getting back into form now. He will be an NBA player and I have never doubt that he just needed to get healthy.

Really great debut for Alex. It was noticed on the local sports last night. And he didn't even have his stuff, his suitcase got lost on the way to Philly. He will get a lot of playing time this week as Saric reported soreness in his heel and will have his minutes limited.

I agree he is intelligent and hard working. I love Alex, the one thing he had/has to overcome is he is not an extremely aggressive young man.

Yeah, the highlight of his college career came early in his freshman year.

@~Keyser Soze~ he was incredible that night. I was there sitting with DA, Dale Brown, and Ron Mercer we were all like "this kid is a man child"... sigh..

@caneintally no Cane he was not amazing that tourney or any other game like he was the night vs Duke 20 points and 8 rebounds.

2014 Tourney: 3 points 2 rebounds, 6 points 2 rebounds, 6 points 4 rebounds, 8 points 3 rebounds, 8 points 7 rebounds, 4 points 5 rebounds

Not anywhere amazing like that Duke game.

You keep doing this to me just like when...

I was talking up Bam as a potential get and my #1 big (along with @westerncat) prior to everyone else, with this gem:

"LOL at the Bam stuff. Kid is more of lock to NC st then any recruit ever to any school. Hell we had a way better shot at Giles IMO ."

And then while I was questioning WG's over all game and disagreeing with the MKG comparisons:

Brianpoe:
MKG would have eaten WG.
MKG was a top player since 7th grade for a reason, WG just started to turn heads.

You:
"Gabriel has better pro potential then MKG due to his sweet stroke"

And more of you:

"Bam and Gabriel will be top 5 picks"

"LOL Gabriel will be drafted in the top 15"

"Would much rather have Gabriel (over Bridges) as overall is the better player IMO with a much higher ceiling."

"Gabriel is a guy I could see being a top 3 pick and surprising everyone . He is a true SF at 6'10 and still growing."

"just with Gabriel last year we are a final 4 team IMO as that dude is a monster on the boards"

One day you will finally agree with me...

And, this Alex went AWOL, never to return:

I still love you though...

Between his personality and the cbb rules that punishes athleticism (flopping, touch fouls) he just never let loose and played.

yup....how many games did boogie or KAT get stuck on the bench because of lame fouls, or just being unproductive because there was 3 or 4 games camping in the lane the entire time.

i love the sport but college basketball is the worst version of basketball there is and its not close

Boogie's production per 40 was insane, dude only avg something like 22 mpg.

This.

When was the last time, at UK, where he had that much room to operate? I'd have to say that trip the 2015 team took to the Bahamas was probably the last time he could show that freedom of movement.
