Former Louisville TV sports guy, now lives and works in New York. Frequent call in guest on the Underdogs.

* Said bluntly "can we just say it? Kentucky just isn't very good. They have no identity."
* Said Murray can't guard anybody and bigs are terrible.
* Said he didn't care if UK fans didn't like his analysis.
* Thinks the Seahawks are way overrated and Denver has made a huge mistake going to Manning.

I'm not ready to say this isn't a good team.

It is an inconsistent team. It is a maddening team when they just phone it in on the road, but there is also real talent there.

Lets see how we look Saturday. If we lay down and let Bama trounce us, I'll take all the doomsday predictions more seriously.

I'm expecting us to play a MUCH better game though, and think we pull this one off. (fingers crossed)

Could fix alot of things. If we can just get that first road win, beating a good Bama team. They are not a great team but playing UK they'll play hard. Hope we do to.

Hope they come out Saturday and play with a chip on their shoulder and the rest of the season, after all the smack everybody has been talking about them:boxing::uzi:

As I said after the LSU game, we will learn a great deal on Sat.

never heard of him.

No really, I've never heard of him until right now. Who cares what he thinks?

Same here. A good team doesn't handle Duke and Louisville like they did. A young team that gets frustrated when behind and loses their senses does what they did against LSU and others even though they have more talent. That's why they have to start strong out of the gate. That's why Cal tells them if you don't play with energy right away you're coming out.

DAMN solid post, DEP. I couldn't agree more.

Are you sure UK has more talent than LSU? What are you basing that on, stars?

I totally agree. I just don't understand why the bigs all go soft at the same time. Can we give them ear plugs so the road crowds don't get in their heads?

This is what bothers me. This is not a young team. Of the first nine players, six of them are Sophomores,Juniors, and Seniors. If you take Skal out of the mix, because of lost minutes, only Murray and Briscoe play significant minutes as freshmen.

Good post. But I don't think we are as talented overall as our fans want to believe.

I actually agree that we have no identity and just not a good team right now. A lot of that changes if we somehow manage to find a low post presence to help out the guards.

Still time but Saturday is big.

We can hang our hat on the turnarounds of 2011 and 2014. I remember in 2014 Cal said "we were running out of runway to land the plane".

The game that's going to show us what we have is at Kansas. Winning at Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas would be great right now, but that won't show us what we can expect. Those games against Florida in 2014 really let us know, especially the SECT game.

I don't think the bigs go soft.. We just have three different bigs that play different styles of ball.
Marcus: plays great around the rim( defense) but no offensive skills..
Skal: isn't used properly, so we'll probably never know..
Zack: a lot of potential! Runs the floor good, has a 16 footer he can hit ( if set ) ...

Isaac isn't going to give us anything as long as he fouls constantly. He has 16 fouls in 76 minutes of play, a rate far higher than anybody else on the team. All our big guys foul too much though, Isaac, Skal, Alex, and Marcus all average 5+ fouls per 40 minutes.

Skal is the worst I think. He is usually fouling out in 15 minutes of play or so. I'm not sure if it's the new rules that are frustrating them but other teams don't seem to be having as bad a time with it.

Skal fouls 6.5 times per 40, Isaac fouls 8.4

I think at Alabama shows us plenty, at this point. If we can't go in there and win, or at minimum compete at a high level, then we can forget about Kansas.

So far, we are incredibly weak on the road. We have to shore that up fast, or we could be a middle of the pack SEC team.

UK got the margin down to 4 around the 9 minute mark. Then, it looked like everyone left the ship because of the foul situation of the bigs. If the bigs had been just a little more invested and alert earlier (and not been fouled out or super-cautious at 4 fouls) I think we would have won. People are over-reacting to the margin of victory. The UKes aren't that far from being a really good team.

Of course the next time, one of the bigs doesn't jump enough to dunk the ball when they're standing right in front of the goal, I'm going to stroke out and need a drool cup for the rest of my days.

At this time of the year in 2010-11 we also had 3 losses and, as most know, that team would wind up with 9 altogether. Obviously, there are significant differences between this team and that one. The one constant is Cal. As you said, the talent is there and I believe if these guys totally buy in to the team concept emphasized that the ship will right itself. I'm not predicting a NC but I'm not ruling out a run either. Lefkoe doesn't care if we like his analysis and I would be willing to bet that a majority of BBN feels the same way about his opinion. Too many people want to bury this team simply because of the coach and the name on the jersey.

That's very true actually. Poy and Lee were stinking it up but we were still within striking distance before they both fouled out. At that point they all just said "screw it" and it was over.

2011 and 2014 are why I'm holding out hope. I expect to have more awful games, and to lose some more, especially on the road. I don't know if we find the toughness inside we had with Jorts in 2011, or Julius in 2014, but I do feel like we can get a whole lot better. We've shown some really good things in some games. We need Briscoe to get out of his funk and to work his butt off on his free throws, and if he can get things worked out then with him, Ulis, and Murray with Hawkins in reserve our backcourt looks great. The bigs just have to at least not disappear, foul out, and wilt when pushed around. I'm not going to melt down if (when?) Kansas kicks our tail at their home. If we manage to keep that game close, I'll take it as a positive sign. And I'm optimistic about running the table in Rupp - even the NIT team only lost at home once in conference.

That guy is just a douche bag, he really is. This is silly, but his voice and the way he talks makes me cringe. I admit, I just hate how he talks. Slow, annoying, pretentiousness, etc. I think when he was local, he did some idiotic thing where he made wrestling analogies when he did his segment or something?? Some people liked that for some reason ...then he got a gig somewhere else I think and Vanetti still calls him from time to time or something for "analysis". Don't take him seriously, he's just a goof, plain and simple.

I couldn't believe that. He hit the side of the rim from two inches away.

Yep. Make fun of the U of L player who shoots granny style free throws all you want to, but he recognized that the standard method wasn't working for him. I would love to see someone try hitting the backboard with backspin on the shot. Some guys instinctively "aim" their free throws instead of just shooting them. For those guys, it would give them a greater margin of error. And if they miss, there's a better chance for an offensive rebound.

Dude...

Please go back to your own board.

They have Simmons and Blakeney and a handful of other guys that can play. We have Ulis, occasionally Murray, and who else? Briscoe? Skal? Those guys may have more stars next to their name but are they are NOT at all more talented than LSU's guys. Stop gazing at stars and just use the simple eye test.

I didn't say anything about stars and I didn't comment on what you posted.

I won't even acknowledge your opinions because you're a flaming troll and everyone here knows it!

You try so hard to extract responses with your negative posts and the gig is up...

Well then why did you originally reply to me with "go back to your board"? I didn't directly address you in any post so why are you so worried about me that you felt compelled to respond to me in the first place? Stop worrying about me. You want my autograph?

Lefkoe is one of the bigger scum bags I've ever met. He came over to my house after a late night of partying at the St. Matthews bar was already real drunk, proceeded to get real high try to steal my buddy's weed when he left the room, when I left the room he tried to tell my girlfriend she should break up with me because I was catholic and she was Jewish and that he was also Jewish and Jews should only date other Jews. He was also filming that UK/UL documentary at the time and I don't know if Matt Jones was helping with the doc or what but the way Matt talked on the radio you'd think they were friends and he spent a solid 15-20 minutes saying what a POS Matt was and how everyone he thought was his friend actually hated hated him, guy loved to shoot his mouth off. Like a week after this he found my girlfriend on Facebook and sent her a message saying to watch his 6pm sportscast and he was going to do something or say something that was like a special shout out to her that only the two of them would know about. Me and her had good laugh about that.

Damn.

I think LSU has nearly as much talent as us. They gave some bluechip older talent, as well as older high potential guys who are now putting it together, and two big time freshmen including maybe the top draft prospect since AD
