concerning any position on the UK Football team. Until a player actually sees the football field, in a live game, we or the coaches will never actually know how a player will perform. i know this is a very simple observation that all would agree with. So, If U allow a certain person to play a series in a real football game, seems to me it would not be the end of the world for UK Football. I am not a troll. I am as a die hard UK Football Fan as anyone on this board or any other board. Just do not understand why this could not have happened Saturday night, at some point in the game. Peace & go Cats.

I agree completely, we'll see how it shakes out. Towles can't keep performing under 50 percent accuracy and expect to keep his job. If we start losing big, expect to see Barker, if by some miracle we continue to win, I dont see them making any changes.

It is hard to give Barker a series in a close game because:

1) Your starting QB has kept the game close and deserves to lead his team
2) Jerking a QB out of a game to experiment with another not only could ruin your chance at winning if the backup plays poorly, but also could lose the game because you have killed your starting QB's confidence and rhythm.

The only way that Barker plays is if we get a huge lead and he is the victory cigar or if we are losing big and the coaches decide Patrick has had enough chances. And that is the way it should be.

Where is Jo Jo ? is he hurt

Towles had one of the highest QBR's in the country in the first half. A couple bad throws and he got into his own head going into the second half.

I'm confident we see the first half Towles this Saturday.

I agree with the poster who said the most popular guy in Kentucky is the backup qb, its the same in almost every state. I bet it was a popular opinion in Ohio Monday night during halftime with tOSU up 17-14.

But to your post, if the coaches want to see Barker in game action, that can be planned all week, he gets the 3rd series, first series of 2nd quarter or whichever one they decide. Towles will know its going to happen and it won't appear like he is being pulled to him. Richt has done this before, did it this past weekend. DJ Shockley got 1 series a game early in Richt's time at UGA, he started as a sr and was the qb for our last SEC championship. At the time he graduated, David Green who Shockley backuped left college as the all time winningest qb. It does work if both qbs know whats going on.

I told my son as we were walking in the stadium that I hoped we could get a good lead and Barker get some reps in the fourth qtr. It would help tremendously in case we need him and we probably will at some point. It was not to be.

No way. He didn't throw for 600 yds and 7 TDs. He's a bum. He can't play. He's horrible. With our freshman/sophomore WR's he should be able to throw for 500 yds easily. Barker should play. He has to be better than a 133 QBR.

Towles is better than Barker. He had a bad half. Get over it. He'll be ready Saturday!
Yeah , it was only one bad half, lol . It's more accurate to say he's had one good half since last years Fla. game . People should just just stop using the " it's only one game " excuse . Towles started the whole season last year and didn't improve one bit . It's starting to look like he has all the "measurables" but none of the " intangibles" . Is Barker more of a "gamer" ? I don't know . The best case senerio for this UK team Is for Towles to turn it around . I got SERIOUS doubts about that though .

Backup QB, always the most popular guy in the state of Kentucky.
And sometimes it's justified . I'm sure you just loved watching Morgan Newton and never seeing the backups get a chance . I don't recall hearing any clamor for the backups when Couch or Woodson were at the helm . There were some that wanted to see Boyd when Lorenzon was the starter . Guess what. He did get snaps and proved he shouldn't be playing over Jared .

Grumpy it is easy to do that when the competition is low, but in an SEC game a coach would be crazy to plan for a backup unproven QB to absolutely get the first series of the second quarter. What happens if you are in a shoot out and have built an offensive rhythm? Do you sacrifice that just to follow through with an unproven plan?

TOBC is maybe the only coach in the game that treats the QB position pretty much like any other position, i.e., mess up and get yanked. I recall Howard Schnellenberger almost always played his #2 QB sometime in the second quarter; he believed a few snaps while the game was on the line was better experience than the whole forth quarter in a rout. But as you say these were planned appearances not knee jerk reactions. Never really understood why more coaches did not use this philosophy.

Peace

I agree with this 100% in the sense Barker can easily be scripted into game situations without making Towles a fall guy. It's only fair to get him some reps with the hype surrounding him. I'd hate for him to have to be called upon in a situation where he's had zero exposure. Teams use two quarterbacks all the time, including OSU who won the NC.

I understand the excitement with barker because he was rated high out of high school. So a lot of people want to see what he can do.

But here's the deal, when Towles was a freshman everyone was yelling for him to start because he too was rated high. Well, he's starting. Suddenly Barker is now the most popular player (at least to what I think is a small portion of the fan base). And until the next Tim couch comes along, those people will be wanting the next player in line time and time again.

Also, what people are expecting to see is as if we are quarterback U or something. Look, Towles had a few bad decisions Saturday. But he had some good ones too. The thing I noticed most was his ability to hit guys on out patterns and a couple short in the middle of the field. He needs to get better at both but it's not like he was throwing it in the dirt 5 yards in front of the receivers like I've seen in the last with other guys. Also, some of his overthrown touch passes weren't exactly wide open guys. Several were corners with safety help which prevents a qb from leaving it short. So when you hear the phrase "thrown only where his man can catch it" that applies here as well. Except it was a little ahead of the receiver.

So, I see no reason to question the coaches. And it's really silly to think they're just throwing guys out there for the hell of it. THEY WANT TO WIN! Actually, believe it or not, they want to win MORE than we do. So lower the Heisman qb expectations and give the guy some time. It's a young team projected to be a 5-7 win team. I've NEVER seen a great 5-7 win team. That should alone tell you that maybe you're expecting a little too much if you're looking for perfection.
