A pivotal stretch for Mark Stoops
When you listen to Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops talk nowadays, he's getting one point across loud and clear in all

No question Stoops returns. Is there doubt Stoops will be back?
As the linked story said, lest he take another job, he will be the one attempting to improve in 2024.Is there doubt Stoops will be back?
That has been my gripe about stoops salary. I don’t blame a coach for what he makes but it’s a bit of malpractice for Barnhart to give him 2m more last year. Give him 500 or 750 at worst then the rest goes to recruiting budget so we can recruit outside of our direct area for recruits like ut historically has. Higher recruiting budget makes the job and support stronger no matter who is in the chair and makes it more attractive when there is turnover. Would’ve more than doubled our recruiting budget and put us behind only uga and ut. Instead we’re bottom third of conference but this is a guy that gave elzy a contract just for a 4 day tourney runNet, with the talent we can recruit, limited both by geography & because we pay coaches on the high end & thus don't have much money left for NIL that could improve talent, we should expect around seven wins. Jimmy's & Joe's are more than X's & O's, but we choose to spend more so on X's & O's from our relatively lower donor funding. Got it. Thanks.
But I do wonder then if we spent half as much on coaching & put the rest towards NIL if we would do better. Just a thought.
I’d put it into NIL as it seems our development of certain units is seriously lacking. Definitely not the most optimistic times for the Cats.
Well said1. Solid write up by Rowland....The offense discussions are fair game and largest point of future to solve or this thing will never get right
2. I think the part that is a big issue that he didn't mention is this year there are some pretty serious breakdown in players just simply performing assignments vs. free lancing and hurting the team.
- In particular....Zion Childress was a complete disaster and had to give up at least 4-5 TDs by having correct eye discipline and simply not knowing his assignments. And this isn't about being a 5* vs. 3*.....he honestly deserved to be benched or clean his baloney up.
- Barion has been another major coaching issue. The dude can't track the ball on deep shots, he routinely jogs parts of routes, rounds off routes, etc... and he leads the team in targets by far.
- Jager Burton has made alot of mistakes....not physical mistakes but stuff like horrible snaps, personal fouls, etc...and the kid never grabbed some bench
- In smaller ways...guys like Kattus is a penalty magnet, JJ doesn't play his rear off, Leary throws way too much outside the hashes vs. a lot of inside the hashes routes, etc.
The point is....I don't remember seeing major coaching based issues in years past. As close as I can remember was Jordan Jones was a loose cannon his Jr year....and his Sr year that issue got fixed in a hurry. I dont' remember Stoops kissing guys butts in years past but it looks like we put up with a ton more discipline issues now. Stoops needs to get back to players getting yanked if they can't do simple mental aspects of game.
Great post. Highly recruited guy’s know they have a quick out with the portal and Stoops seems cowed by that new dynamic.1. Solid write up by Rowland....The offense discussions are fair game and largest point of future to solve or this thing will never get right

Yes feels like the whole locker room/team dynamic has changed in the last two yearsGreat post. Highly recruited guy’s know they have a quick out with the portal and Stoops seems cowed by that new dynamic.
