A fine poster and great fan passes away

Randy Van Hoose, who went by RV on WildcatNation Forum has passed away. I know this site has a poster named RV2, I do not know if they are the same. Knowledgeable, pragmatic, some good legit inside info.
Father time is undefeated in this world.
Rest in peace, man.
Fairly certain RV2 is the same guy. I first met RV online many years ago back on the old Bleed Blue Kentucky site.

I met him in person at the 2014 Spring Game, and saw him again and talked to him briefly later that year at the LSU-UK game in Baton Rouge.

You're absolutely right, he was a great guy and knowledgeable poster. May he Rest in Peace....

Oh jeez. Met Randy back during the 97 season and spent many tailgates together with him, including the horrible UT game in 98 after the wreck. We ate at a Knoxville cracker barrel with Mel McCane before that game.

If you look up the 2007 MCB catwalk with Wesley Woodyard, you’ll see me with my boy (now 20 years old) on my shoulders at 8:38 and Randy beside us at the 8:45 mark.

Life is fleeting folks, embrace those you love 🙏

RV2 was indeed RV.

He and I met many times, especially in the Mumme/Morris era.

He knew “everything” in those days, and actually “led the charge” regarding the strange promotion of an “Associate Head Coach,” from an otherwise condemned group, highlighting that Coach’s close relationship with the then AD.

He had a “tell all,” and prophetic post on the old WC Faithful for just a few hours after Mumme’s firing.

With the change at AD just a couple of years later, his controversial post seemed fulfilled.

I last saw RV in Columbia Missouri during the 2016 season, a big win for the Cats.

I’m glad he made it until the Cats posted some double-digit winning seasons.

RV will be missed!

Randy had posted on these boards as long as I can remember, definitely back to the WCF days with Mel. I still have the image of him wearing his blue power K cowboy hat with his big grin stuck in my head. He says always in the know, great guy who would tell you how it was whether you liked it or not.

Damn. A mainstay for years. In late years, not seen as often. Back in the Mumme days, remember someone pointing him out at a practice. Rest in peace RV. A legend.
RV was a great guy, and a regular at our Tailgates. Will always remember his crazy hair hat. He had been battling cancer for a while and it just got too widespread for him to overcome, which explains why he wasn't seen as often these past couple of years. He will be missed. He was always a great fountain of information. A true Blue fan.

I miss my old buddy Mel McCane. can't believe he's been gone so long either. I was one of the originals on the old WildcatFaithful site that he started and got our tailgates started back around 1999 when I invited people from the site to come tailgate with me out of the back of my old green Dodge Ram. We've been going at it for 24 years now, several people have come and gone or passed away. RV was responsible for all the lettering on the trailer we use today.

He would watch practice and you would think he was part of the administration. Commanded respect in a crowd, but definitely on these boards.

He was an "insider" before there were insiders. He will be missed.

I knew RV well years back. I didn't know his cause of death till this thread. He wasn't all that old. Ran into him first at a UK practice some 20 years ago & had lunch with him & Wildcat Rick. Talked with him at several away games and attended the WCF/WCN tailgates several times. Hadn't seen him since before covid when I gave up my season tickets. This is quite sad and of course he is missed.

Mel and RV represent an era that seems long ago to me. I don’t think I have ever known anyone like Mel. Truly one of a kind.

Amazing to think that back in the day that you could pretty much walk into pre-season practices at the old practice facility. There'd be 20-25 regulars - not me - standing around with RV foremost among them.

Mel literally put his life and all his savings into WCF with the intention to never sell out or charge people to use the site. He was even reluctant to get advertising on the site. Our tailgates grew and the site grew on the generous donations of a number of people including RV.

First met Randy at a WildCatFaithfull tailgate back in the Mumme era. He was very connected to that staff and had a wealth of info to share constantly. He and I are both originally from Ashland, I didn't know him when I lived there but after meeting him I found out one of my friends was married to his cousin - small world.

Sometimes his candor rubbed people the wrong way but honestly most of the time they deserved it. He really had a very high football IQ and I always benefitted from his info and takes. Definitely the most avid UK fan I ever met. Sad that he has passed on the eve of what may be a historic season for the CATS.

I remember standing next to JLo’s mom watching practice one afternoon. I was not a regular, but tried to get to a few just to report back to WCF.

RV and Carter Hall were two of the first that I ever found when Al Gore told me about this inter-warb thing that he was building that loved UK football as much as me. Before, I felt like an outcast and pariah for being a UK football-first fan. RIP, RV.

This is Randy's oldest son Rusty. I just wanted to thank all of you for the kind words and to tell that he was still talking football up until his last day. Thankfully he went peacefully and is not in pain anymore. I never needed to get on message boards with him around as he always know more than I could find anyway. Again thank you for the kind words.

I believe RV's family would want the above shared with those of you who aren't on the pay site. I don't believe @JRowland will mind, as he's always shown much respect to the early online Trailblazers among the BBN.

RIP RV

All you folks who used to come by the WildcatFaithful/Wildcatnation tailgates need to come by again. we'd like to see your faces. We promise not to talk politics 😁😂(that's for those of you on here that frequent the political forum)

I didnt make it to any games last year. I ususally try and say hi to Dennis and Rick when I go by.

We were lucky to know RV from the great Wildcat Nation family.
RIP and God Bless the Family.

A pic RV at the 07 Liberty Bowl, when we were all young and had the world by the tail.
A pic of Mel for all who were lucky enough to have known him.

I was a fishin trip on the St John's River and Lake George on a Saturday while we were getting our butts kicked by Florida in the swamp. It was the game where they blocked almost every kick we tried and ran most of them back for a TD. Of course RV was at the Swamp. We talked afterward and he and his lovely wife drove all the way down to Astor Florida for dinner with us at the Blackwater Inn. All we could do is drink, eat and have a laugh about that game.

truebluejr and all, I'll stop by and say howdy this fall.

I've been trying to post these two pics but can't get it to work. If anyone want to give me a had that can post a pic here text me at Five0Two-797-1441 and I'll shoot you the pics.
This site doesn't host pictures. If you want to post an image you have to first upload it to a third party server, then you can link the URL to appear here. Here is a link I found that lists sites where you can posts pictures:

I'm excited to see your pictures, I was a mod on the old WildCatFaithfull site and attended several of the tailgates we had back then.

RIP. He was very knowledge and very loyal to UK. He never blinked. He never whined. He supported all of our coaches and athletics directors. He never had any patience or sympathy for the fellowship of the miserable or the curse of the bear crowd. He is missed.

There was a Van Hoose that coached Boyd Co football back. in the 80's , a relative ? could have been early 90s .. I'm a 16th region guy and didnt realize deefeense was an Ashland native either ... just last month cancer claimed another sports lover in Merle Kidwell . His dad is in the Ky AD HOF , and still alive .
