A couple of questions on the Ed O'Bannon case

1) Will this change the face of college athletics?
2) Was Jeff Sheppard part of the lawsuit?

Sounds like a favorable result to the plantiffs, especially the lawyers, who are getting almost everything they asked for.

I didn't read the article yet but I will. I selfishly hold Ed O'Bannon responsible for college basketball video games ceasing to exist. I certainly understand where he is coming from though.

I still play March Madness 2010. That UK team was stacked with awesome freshman! That makes it fairly easy to create the new squad each season. I play the NBA games sometimes too. But there was nothing like getting the new EA or 2K college hoops game every Fall!

I though the basketball games folded due to lack of sales. I know NCAA Football was nailed to the cross due to this case. We never got it on PS4/XB1 and never got a playoff edition, ugh.

I loved those games though, they were really fun (college bball I mean). I thought 2k was the far superior game (as with NBA), but EA was solid enough.

Once the NCAA is beaten enough times and relents on the forced amateurism you'll get your video games back.

Sales of the basketball titles weren't great from what I understand. The NCAA Football line of games was a fairly successful endeavor (the way I read it). But I believe the O'Bannon law suit is what ultimately made EA/2K decide to shut it down (and later NCAA football games) but I could be wrong.

Yes this case has already had an impact on college athletics IMHO.

It looks as if the O'Bannon case was the beginning of the end of the NCAA licensing athletes likeness and such without any type additional of compensation IMHO. Since this suit was filed in 2009 the chatter for paying athletes, stipends, travel expenses etc. has grown immensely.

I would love to hear whether or not Sheppard was involved in the suit as well.

So you don't remember when Sheppard came out and said that he didn't feel comfortable around UK anymore? Talked about Cal and how he was doing things and how it wouldn't be the way he would do things? Went on to say that he was more comfortable at UL than UK because Pitino was there and that was his coach. You don't remember any of this?

He went on Matt Jones' show and they went at it. The truth was Jeff was upset about the autograph tours. Pitino lets Sheppard handle the autograph tours of his exiting players from UL and that way Jeff can make some money. Calipari lets his players handle it. Jeff was upset about that and made some back-handed comments about Cal over it (without saying what was truly upsetting him). Lots of people lost respect for Jeff after that.

Clearly my post blazed right over your head as Im sure many things do. God you are dumb. You took my post as me attacking "one of our own" when you had no idea on what I was referring to. Why don't you do some research before you reply so as to not look so stupid.

This is pretty cool moment for the former athletes. Looks like the lawyers made out like bandits but I know a few guys that played D-1 ball that will receive some kick back on this suit. One of my buddy played four years on that level and he could get a check upwards of 6k!!! It may not have came in the form of a stipend while they were in school but I'm sure they wont complain!

I think it already has to some extent. The NCAA can no longer use a player's "likeness" without compensating them. That they did just showed their greed IMO. I guess their thinking was let's cash in on these guys while continuing to preach they are amateurs. It wasn't the only thing, but it certainly help fuel the move towards now paying player's stipends. The model the NCAA came up with in the 50's just doesn't work these days, like a lot of things from that era. I have no idea if Shep was involved, but if his "likeness" was used I certainly wouldn't blame him.
