50 % at FT Line

Yeah, no excuse for that. Doesn't make sense when they're hitting 3's at such a high clip. Hope they work on it, asap. Surely this team possesses too many good shooter to not at least be decent from the charity stripe throughout the season, right?

Free throws absolutely MUST improve! 50% isn't going to cut it. All we would have had to do is shoot a respectable percentage, and we could have beat this team by 56. Don't get me wrong, a 51 point win is pretty good, but 56 was right there! I don't know, I just have the feeling if this team doesn't win at least two national championships this year, I'm gonna be pissed.

Uhh.. Kentucky won by 59...

If you look at the culprits, most of them are people who won't play as much as they did tonight. The people who are actually going to be taking them in games that matter were fine.

Yep. But what if we had hit more free throws though? If we would have hit more free throws, we would have won by more points. It's math dude, why are you arguing about it?

We will hit 100 several times this year. I predict triple digits in a double digit win on Dec 26.

No chance. That game will be a mucked up grab fest. They will be shooting a bunch of free throws that game.

Cal's teams usually start out poorly from the line. There seems to be an acclimation process for all the new players.

Jon Scott doesn't have the box scores for exhibitions, but consider these numbers:

Last year, 1st 4 games: UK shot 58/91, 63.7%. Final % was 72.6
13-14, 1st 4 games: UK shot 100/156 (yep- 39 attempts per game), 64.1%. Final% was 68.2.
12-13 was just a bad FT shooting team, period.
11-12, 1st 4 games: UK shot 57/90, 63.3%. Final % was 72.3
10-11, 1st 4 games: UK shot 56/99, 56.6%. Final % was 71.

I agree with the people who think this will probably be the best FT shooting team Cal's had. Worst case, I still think it will be above 70%.

The only player to be concerned about is Briscoe since his game is about attacking the basket. His form is rough.

But he shot 75% in the Nike EYBL and over 70% during his HS season, both on a ton of attempts.

I agree that he's the key, because he's going to be at the line a lot. If he struggles, then UK will just be an average FT shooting team. If he hits 75%, then this will probably be the best FT shooting team Cal has had. Ulis is money, Murray should be an 80%+ guy, Labissiere is solid for a big guy, Poythress is decent. Add Briscoe, and that's the bulk of who will be shooting FT's for this team. All of them have the capability of shooting 70% or better.

Yeah, admittedly nitpicking. The team will shoot fine. I was just struck by his form last night sitting right under one of the baskets. High arch with little knee bend.

The guys who need to really dial in their FT's are Briscoe and Skal. They will get to the line a lot.

Ulis is gonna be fine.
Murray is gonna be fine.

Marcus Lee (bad), Alex Poythress (average) and Charles Matthews (bad/average) are what they are. However, their FT rate will be quite low, I think.
