5 UK players made pre-season All-SEC

LOL at even bothering to list a 4th Team Pre-Season All-Conference Team.

I think it is safe to stop after 1st and 2nd, and move on to a general list for Honorable Mention.

I guess the AD's all agree that each of them must have something to tout.

Or we can let the guys earn it. This isn't tee-ball. Not everybody wins, not everybody is equal. Pre-season doesn't mean squat, and 4th team means less. I would prefer if they go out there and earn 1st team.

This is Phil Steele's list--AD's have nothing to do with numbers of "teams", player selections, etc.

I tend to agree. In the big picture of things pre-season All Conference doesn't really mean too much. I agree that a 2 deep team plus a "players to watch" list is plenty for pre-season. Even for a guy like Phil Steele. For those that want to see it here is the actual list from Phil Steele's site.

Peace

I skimmed right over that, and for some reason, I was thinking it was an official conference release. Must be because of the meetings, but those are general. The league coaches list isn't released until SEC Football Media Days. Silly me.

Recruiting rankings and pre-season accolades are nice, but we do this every year. Bigger, stronger, faster. This is the year we beat XYZ. This is the year we break thru and win X amount of games. This team has beat us X years in a row, but this is the year the break the trend. And then every November, we all sit around disappointed and pissed off, because we bought in...again.

Time to put up or shut up. Win.

So we should just not discuss anything until we start winning games?

People say this every year, as well. :)

Free country. discuss what you like. I would just advise you to keep the delusions of grandeur to a minimum. Because in case you've forgotten, we beat 4 cupcakes and a South Carolina team that won 3 games in conference play last year. We also a lost an All-SEC player in Dupree, a very good player in Smith, a starting Safety, our OL situation is uncertain, Towles hasn't proven that he's a worldbeater yet, and we have no idea how the young guys are going to play. That's reality, regardless of how many guys made a 4th team pre-season All-SEC team.

I've seen people here saying we're going to win 8-9 games, end our skid against Florida, thump UL and UT, etc. Thats great...until we don't. And then we're here in November, talking about how the team underachieved and thanking God it's basketball season...while opposing fanbases laugh at us, for making outlandish claims in the offseason...again.

It's time for our fanbase to temper expectations until this staff actually proves that they can win something besides recruiting battles. Otherwise, we simply look ridiculous.

Whoah?! Wait a second. Really can't argue with your first paragraph other than to say that most teams get better as they mature in age and grow in talent......hence the reason for some optimism. But The amount of BBN fans who are thinking 8-9 wins is a very, very, very small portion of the fan base. The vast majority of us...probably well over 90%....are predicting in the 5-7 win range. Which is a realistic prediction. Those that predict over 7 wins or under 5 are few and far in between.

This is a pretty fair distribution for fan bases of all sports everywhere in the world. The BBN doesn't look ridiculous to anyone. What is fairly ridiculous is your claim. To call out the very few and claim its representative of the whole.

Furthermore. Most of us know that 8-9 wins is overly optimistic but isn't there worst things to be in the world than someone who has a bit too much hope?

I think he did a decent job with the first 2 teams based on what the guys did last year, but those 3rd and 4th teams are pretty random. Hurd from UT shouldn't be ahead of the kid from Missouri who gained over 1000 yards. The RB from AU on the 4th team hasn't taken an SEC snap, he is a JUCO transfer in his first year. UGA's best S is 4th team while the part time starter is 3rd team, how did he come up with that? But his first 2 teams, which is probably all he should have done isn't bad based on what they did last year.
