Though you all might enjoy this. 5 composite 5 stars in 22 years from Kentucky.
One of the first things I noticed. Wonder where they all go. VaTech has been great at times, but not in a long while. VA hasn’t had much to brag about that I can remember. The North Carolina teams aren’t world beaters. Not terribly far to Clemson, Ohio State and Penn State I suppose.Virginia is surprising to me.
Virginia is surprising to me.
In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, it's bigger than Christmas day.
I’ve spent a lot of time in New Mexico. It does NOT surprise me at all.New Mexico also stood out. I realize that it has a smaller population than Arizona and MUCH smaller than Texas, but it's not 0% population of those states.
Hampton Roads metro gets it done, with a little help from Richmond and NOVA. Lots of military kids in Hampton, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach. They have shown up on elite rosters nationwide because they aren't necessarily "Virginia People". We got in there at times 20 years ago.Virginia is surprising to me.
Not completely. That is obviously a factor but doesn't explain the difference between Ohio or Pennsylvania and Illinois, New York, and Michigan. It's also about good high school football. It’s almost like there’s a correlation with population size and the total number of African Americans in most of the states with higher numbers of 5 stars. Interesting.
Alabama and Louisiana with near identical populations as Ky produced 7x and 6x more. Even Ohio with 3x the population produced fewer than those two states.
While working, I frequently traveled to VA. When held over the weekend during football season I always tried to catch a HS game. I was stunned at how much better VA ball was than KY ball.
Peace
Exactly….need a big push in Florida!125 down here. UF and FSU can't use all of them.

New York state must have pitiful high school football to produce so few 5 stars with its population.
And they do not have the strong feeder system that Georgia, Florida or Texas has. They start very young in those states and have more money to spend on youth than New York.Lots of teams in NY don't play 11 man football.
You can’t from that graphic. They are:So, how can you see the ones from KY?
You can’t from that graphic. They are:
Michael Bush
Micah Johnson
Eric Shelton
Damien Harris
Michael Mayer
Eric Shelton. Played at Bryan Station, graduating in 2002. Running back that went to UL.Thanks. Shelton...the name escapes me...also, didn't realize Mayer was a 5*

Football is stronger in warm weather states and interest is much higher too.
I would've thought Landon Young and Jefrick Wills also were. They were on Rivals, fwiw. You can’t from that graphic. They are:
