Our projected starting PG has a career FG% of 38% and a career 3 PT% of 29 while our starting projected SG has a career 3 PT % of 33%. And this is in an offense that shoots a lot of threes. If Pope doesn't drastically change how to be offense runs this team has a decent chance(15-20%) to miss the NCAA Tourney.

I'm completely serious. It's sad how delusional some of our fan base is thinking we have a top 5 team in talent when shooting wise this is probably our worst shooting starting PG/SG combo in my lifetime which is more than 30 years. However if Pope changes the offense to have the majority of the offense to finish around the basket this team can be solid. If next year's team shoots any where close to the number of 3's as this past year the team will probably miss the NCAA Tourney because thia team would probably be the 50th-100th best team offensive wise according to KenPom.

3-point shooting percentage is a team statistic, in the sense that it is determined by the style of team play, what kinds of shots that system produces, and by the pressure a team's overall talent puts on a defense.

Those statistics can't tell you how players will do in Pope's system and surrounded by much better talent.

The best example: Lamont Butler shot 30.2 percent from 3 the year before Kentucky, and 39.1 percent last year in Pope's system.

I expect Jaland Lowe to have a jump similar to Butler's, and for Aberdeen and Williams and Chandler to shoot in the upper 30s. Oweh was at 36 percent last year, but 38 percent the year before, so could rise a little with slightly better shot selection.

What’s that saying.. it’s better to let them think you’re an idiot then open your mouth and…

I understand your sentiment from a statistical standpoint and the emphasis CMP has for the three-point shot in his offense.
I am not sure you're totally on point, as we'll have to simply wait and see how they mesh in the new system and if Johnson and our trio of Chandler, Noah and Perry can form a reliable shooting group against the tougher competition. It does appear, based on what I've read and others are saying, that our defense should be better ... and that is DEFINITELY a plus !! GO CATS !!

Well, here it is folks. The worst take on the internet.

The bitchin bennies and their obsession with the 3 pt shot!
Not an obsession, but Pope and staff have clearly stated that the 3-point shot is perhaps the key component of their offensive scheme. Accordingly, it is logical to review roster development with 3-point shooting performance and history in mind.

Short memory I think. Devin Askew and ANY other 2g on that team. Even Wall and Bledsoe weren't great shooters (Bledsoe was hot or cold).

Still think this board is too worried about pure 3 point percentage. For the record, Alabama shot 35.3% this year, good for 93rd in the country, and still had the 4th best offense.

If our physicality and rebounding improve, which will lead to more offensive rebounds, that will more than make up for any downgrade in straight 3 point shooting. An an offense with more athletes will be able to get to the rim for easy layups more often as well. Anyone who's doubting this team will put up points is wrong.

I also think Chandler will make huge strides this year and will be a deadeye shooter by the time conference play rolls around.

OK, you are officially a dumbass. Your certificate will soon arrive in the mail.

You can’t win a championship with a team full of one dimensional Jimmy Chitwoods chucking up 40 threes a game.
Aberdeen highly rated taken the ball to the rim and finishing. We now have three guys very good at driving and finishing with Lowe, Oweh and Aberdeen. Just a lot more athletic explosion than what we are used to seeing here.

I assume Johnson can go rack, as well, but do not really know.

It may boil down to how solid and consistent Jasper Johnson is at this level ...
I think you’ve got Owen’s stats artificially inflated, unfortunately, in the 24–25 breakdown you ranked by minutes played. I would love if it were true, but there’s not actually any meaningful sample set in which Oweh shot .391 from three. You had his efficiency right in your initial table.

You're correct ... I made a mistake in my spreadsheet. I edited the initial post to be what I hope and think is now accurate.
THANK YOU for the correction !!

Go check out what Aberdeen did with starter level minutes against top level competition..I doubt you come back once you find that info out since it goes against your agenda you seem to have on these boards...

If the game was HORSE, I would agree.

No way you want to compare a 3-6 game sample to a 50-100 game sample lol

I get being worried about the chances for a title with this past seasons 3pt % of the players that will be on this upcoming team but saying we might not make the tournament is comically bad take. We for sure will make the NCAAT with this group of talent.
