3 "mid-major" finalists in the last 8 years

Yes, probably next 5-10 years.

There have been 5 mid-major F4 teams in those last 8 years.

They will break through. They will continue to get to the final four every two years or so. Wichita State and VCU should both be very good next year.

Here's the question though...

If Gonzaga is a mid-major, is Rutgers or Boston College a major program?

They should be considered major programs due to their traditional conference affiliation.

The next question becomes whether or not joining a conference ups your status immediately. (Example: did moving to the Big East immediately up Butler's status? And would it up the status of a less successful mid major?)

I hate this thread already and I made the OP.

Villanova is definitely not a mid major. Notre Dame football doesn't play in a P5 Conference. Wake Forest and Vandy could be considered mid majors if they weren't in a P5 conference. If Villanova had a FBS football program, even an AAC level program, it would be in the ACC instead of UL.
