3 guard lineup

What are your thoughts on seeing Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray on the court at the same time quite a bit?

I would assume Poythress and Labissiere would round out the 5 with Lee getting the most minutes off the bench

I love how Ulis, Briscoe and Murray compliment one another, and it would certainly help us push the tempo, in comparison to the almost stagnant offense we saw in stretches last season

Not sure most college teams have a 3 who could really post up Murray or Briscoe, personally I am looking forward to it

I hope at times we will see a fast lineup with four guards and Poy or Lee in the post.

I not only think it's possible, I'd say it's likely. Those 3 are 3 of our 5 best players, imo. Add in Poy and Skal and that's our top 5.

I agree. We're back to the positionless players situation. Our wings will be big enough on defense. I think they will wreak havoc on opposing defenses though.

I really believe that will be our starting line up.
Ulis
Briscoe
Murray
Poythress
Labissiere

I'm not sold Poythress is going to be ready. Just because he can play by October doesn't mean he'll be in shape for it.

I really can't wait for this 3 guard lineup, it will definitely be different than the past few years but that's ok. It should be fun to watch, this team will be quick and high scoring.

This is what we will see all season, Murray, Briscoe, Ulis, Labissiere, Poythress starting, and Mulder and Lee getting the most minutes off the bench. Matthews will play more than people think. Humphries will also be called upon often to come off the bench and give Labissiere a breather or a break from foul trouble. Willis and Hawkins will again be trying to prove that they should get onto the floor, but it looks like an 8 or 9 man rotation.

I think 1-6 are locks:

G Ulis
G Briscoe
G Murray
F Poythress
F Labissiere
6th- Lee

I think the Matthews vs. Mulder for the 7th spot is going to be interesting. I think they split time early and one will emerge as the top backcourt reserve. Mulder might get the slight edge for his offensive skills, plus he is older and probably physically more mature.

Then I think Humphries is the 8th man, and plays a lot early and then plays only when Lee and Labissiere are in foul trouble. But Lee has to really make improvements and play to his potential or Humphries will steal a lot of his minutes.

Cal won't go deeper than 8 most of the time. Hawkins might see a few minutes here and there since he is a veteran and good defender, but I don't expect to see him that much with the guards we have coming in.

Inb4 Cal has us playing at a snails pace again.

Have you read the board at all OP? That's been the consensus since we got Murray, at least.

Cal's going to use the three guard lineup. In one interview, he acted like he might toy with the notion of Alex at the 3, but it's not going to happen. Later in the same interview, he admitted that he prefers Alex at the 4 spot.

Cal wants to keep everyone guessing. In the end he starts his best five and it's pretty obvious who should be the top five: Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, Poythress, and Labissiere.

I mean I figured it had been discussed, but honestly no, I have been on a massive off season hiatus, and just returned today basically, so apologies if this has already been discussed at ad-naseum. I was just trying to gage what my fellow posters thought and felt about the possibility of this occurring. Especially when we have become so accustomed to pounding the ball inside the last few seasons

Don't worry about it. You shouldn't have to apologize for having a life. I'm like the guys that are griping in that I pretty much have nothing better to do than be on the board. The difference is I don't belittle those that aren't on here all the time.

My bad. Did not know that. That lineup is pretty much what everyone has pegged. What Cal will do, on the other hand....

Welcome back.

No Worries, thanks for the welcome back, I am pumped for the season and the awesome discussions we have on the board, this place is the best... Who knows what Cal will do? I personally would love to see some three guard lineup

No worries, just a simple misunderstanding, I love this place, and I can tell that we all can't wait for the season to start, I think the mild change in the weather, cooler nights, has us all getting basketball fever again. Although I must say I can't wait for Stoops Troops to take the field either, drove down Alumni today and that Stadium is looking incredible

Yeah, seems like this would be the obvious starting line up on paper, unless Mulder or Matthews really is a lot better than we think. And that is not to say they won't be good...they will, but I feel Murray, Ulis and even Briscoe are better than those two other candidates.

At the beginning of the season a junior will start. I do not know which of the five juniors will start. If
I had to guess I would say Mulder. Maybe Lee.

At the end of the season we could have all freshman starters again. Hump at center and Skal at PF.

Can't see a scenario where Ulis and/or Poythress aren't starting at the end of the season.

I can understand wanting to intentionally try and speed the game up as much as we can with the roster we have. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't really play much differently than we usually do. If you actually believe Cal intentionally slows things down, then you're straight up wrong. He doesn't try to force it in one way or the other.
