Should be wins:
Louisiana Lafayette
EKU
Charlotte
Have a real chance to win:
UF
at Miss. State
at Vandy
UofL
Would take another South Carolina Miracle:
South Carolina
UT
Missouri
No shot
Georgia
Auburn
Our margin for error is thin, as usual. We need some breaks to get to six wins..but why not.
I agree on the 3 should wins,
I might even put Vandy in that group as they appeared to be a program without any kind of direction last season. Your next group gets a little more difficult to predict,
UF is still very talented on the defensive side of the ball but with basically an entire new coaching staff, how are they going to react? Will they answer the call and play up to their potential or will the upper classmen resent the old staff being fired? Offensively they will be completely different, supposely the new offensive staff is going to be much apt to pass the ball but do they have the offensive playmakers to take advantage of that? Florida could go either way, be much improved or regress even more for a couple of years.
State, as much as they lost I am almost on the verge of putting them in the should win group, they weren't very good defensively against the pass last year and likely will be worse this year and lost quite a bit up front defensively too, should be a big step back, offense will be a big dropoff, losing almost the entire OL, their big WR, their RB, Prescott returns but not much help returns with him.
UofL will likely have good QB play because Bobby is a good QB coach and a good play caller, they lost their go to guy at WR, lost some RBs too. But their offense will likely be pretty good because Bobby is a great O mind with his schemes and playcalling ability. Defensively they were overrated last year, lose quite a bit but with transfers they will be putting experienced guys in some spots. I really don't see how they were ranked as good against the run as they were last year, they weren't that good against the run or defensively overall. But to predict an outcome would just be a quess because I think it could go either way.
One thing about the South Carolina game, I think UK has them kind of early this year, SOS usually targets an early game and works all summer and fall for that game, usually its us but we have them a little later. That could be a bad sign for UK if you are his target after last year, no one in the country is better than SOS for getting ready for 1 game. At Carolina where the stadium always is rocking and very loud, will be tough to get out of there with a win.
Missouri, Pinkle does the best job in the conference with developing talent, his results speak for itself. They never recruit well, but his system involves redshirting over half his class, developing their skill and playing as Juniors. I think that is what Mark Stoops is trying to do with UK and modeling his program after Missouri's. I think it will take a huge effort for UK to win this game because he has his system in full motion and stoops is just in his 3rd year, 4th year of recruiting.
UT, Talent wise UT is quite a bit ahead of UK, Jones has recruited lights out since he arrived, almost Bama level, they will be a handful for UK. I almost put them in the next bracket down.
On paper, if AU and UGA play up to potential they will be more than UK can handle this year. I don't really know who AU lost other than qb and a wr. The qb replacement isn't the runner Marshall was, but much better passer. Defensively they are talented especially the front, secondary is a small question mark.
We return 7 starters on 0, replace 1 WR, QB, C, the new WR started as a soph until a knee injury ended his season when he was averaging 20+ ypc. C will be either a 5th year RS sr or a true soph and looking like the soph is going to win out, QB is very likely to be a RS JR or a RS Soph who was the backup last year. We could very well have a RS frosh transfer out after spring practice with Eason on the way next Jan. Defensively we take a pretty good hit, lose 2 starters on the DL, both MLB and a 4 years starter at CB. A kid who transferred from UAB after their program shut down has looked very good in practice and will play quite a bit, maybe start, otherwise it will be 2 Jr who have played a good bit, secondary we have signed about 15 DBs in the last 2 classes, surely one of them can play a little. We have 3 OLB that are outstanding, one even plays the star in Nickle packages and shocked us that he returned. We have 3 that can play and are the three best defesive players we have, Pruitt is finding ways to get them all on the field at the same time. Lorenzo Carter, first start was against UK last year. He has gained 25 lbs and still looks slender and 6'6" 245, will be a star if he stays healthy. But, hopefully we are a handful for everyone, once again it will come down to qb play and if we improve our run defense.
