Hi all!
Well, as was brought up again in another thread, I had asked for some help from BBN for a bit of help with "updating" my old copy of College Hoops 2k7 with a great Kentucky team... namely, the 2010 monster. An old college buddy of mine was visiting for a few days, to celebrate us both turning 40, and we celebrated by getting a bit ****ed up, eating BBQ, watching games on the NCAA Vault channel on the big screen, and playing a CRAP TON of 2k7.
Here are the teams I made (remember, we both went to Duke)...
Six Duke teams (86, 92, 99, 01, 10, and 15... sorry, I'm a Duke guy!)
07 Florida
07 OSU
05 UNC
95 Wake
04 Uconn
10 Butler
01 Arizona
10 Kentucky
09 UNC
82 UNC
92 Michigan
90 LSU
92 UNLV
01 Maryland
and I think I had two or three more done, but I'm blanking on them.
So! As a Duke fan, we obviously played as Duke, but I DID play ith the 2010 UK team a bit on my own, and as expected, they were a lot of fun. TONS of breaking ankles with JWall, and a pair of dominant, powerful bigs in PPat and Cousins.
But I DID go ahead and do a three game sim of 2010 Kentucky vs Duke, a game a lot of people wish we could have seen... although I bet all while hoping for two different outcomes!
So, here are the outcomes, for anyone who wants a minute of perfect-for-off-season reading.
GAME 1:
Duke 63
Kentucky 30
A REALLY close game! First half ended with Duke up 2. Defensive grinder of a game.
For Duke, Scheyer and Smith were dominant, each with 19, and combined to hit almost 50 percent from 3. Lance Thomas with a surprising 13 and 4. Singler with a good all-around game, 6 points, 6 rebound, 5 assists... but shooting only 20 percent.
For UK, PPat was the MAN... 18 points, 8 boards. John Wall had a tough game, shooting only 25% and ending with only 8 points. Cousins was surprisingly passive, not taking many shots. Miller had 8, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists, and both Dodson and Bledsoe scored 6.
GAME 2:
Kentucky 77
Duke 60
John Wall blew UP in the second half and singlehandedly buried the Devils, after the Wildcats went to their three best players the whole game.
For UK, Wall had 30 points and 3 steals, Cousins had 15 and 9 rebounds, and Patterson had 12.
For Duke, the three stars performed well... Nolan Smith with 22, and Singler and Scheyer both with 15. But the rest of the team did just nothing... Lance Thomas had 6 points and 6 rebounds, but Brian Zoubek got hurt and did nothing, and while Mason Plumlee tried, he couldn't go up against PPat and Cousins.
Sooo... all up to the third game!
GAME 3:
Duke 72
Kentucky 70
Another INSANELY close game, the entire way!
Duke wins on the heels of the three Ss, Super, Scintillating, Sensational (as Dick would say) as Jon Scheyer scores 20, Nolan Smith scores 12, and Kyle Singler has 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. Future NBAer Ryan Kelly poured in an essential 14 points.
For UK, PPat understood how serious it was, and scored 24. John Wall scored 16 and 8 assists, and Cousins had 12 and 7. Unfortunately, they didn't get enough from Bledsoe (who actually went scoreless, although he got 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals) and Liggins (who was also scoreless.)
So! Just though you guys might get a kick out of it
Sorry the "wrong" team won, as you would say! Some other random notes... we played four full "Sweet Sixteen and on" tournaments, all as Duke teams. We won twice (once with 2010 Duke, once with 2001 Duke) and lost twice in the final game (once against 92 UNLV, once against the 05 UNC team with Felton and May and McCants) We did end up randomly having a rematch of the 2010 title game in one of the tournaments we ran, which was cool. We also had a rematch of the 2001 Duke/2001 Maryland team, as in that Final Four Steve Blake was UNREAL. We had one tournament we were playing as 2015 Duke, and we ran into 2001 Duke, and lost
We then promptly took over as 2001 Duke and played the rest. UK I think had one big game to get to the final in one of them, but lost to UNLV, who then beat us.
So, thought that might be worth sharing
