#2 Purdue goes down to Ohio State 73-69. It's wide open this year.

When anybody in the tournament plays UCONN it's going to feel to us like they have little chance to win, just like yesterday when UK played at Auburn and a lot of us(yes, including me) thought we had little chance to win. The reason other teams have a chance is because the best team doesn't win all the time; probably not even half the time.

I gotta disagree with all the UCONN hype….they have the best resume and are BY FAR the most consistent team in the country. They run their stuff and have enough pieces to absorb a bad offensive night from one of their main pieces. But if they played in the Big 12 they would have a couple more loses. They always play at a 7-8 out of 10 level. But they aren’t as good as last year’s team. If some plays at a 9 or 10 level UCONN could go down.

Purdue is one I'm keeping an eye on. Everything speaks to them being "different" but this week they've started to "Boiler" things up a bit. This is usually the time of year they get/play tight. Were in a fight with a very mediocre Minnesota team at Mackey and Minnesota is a team that blew a 20 pt lead at home to lose to Missouri this year. Then losing to Ohio State with some turnovers/sloppy play. Have to see if this is just '24 Season basketball or if they are starting to "Boiler" it up again.

My lifetime which is approaching a mid century speaks to 2 things. Whenever Purdue is the best team in the Big Ten, the Big Ten sucks. The other being that Purdue peaks in January and starts to fade and then goes into full gag mode come March. Now they have had the Big Dog team and Carson Edwards teams who were able to overcome and get to Elite 8 losing to Duke/UVA so could this be another who overcomes their program DNA?

They did it last year and that's extremely rare and impressive to accomish.

2009 unc and 2018 nova did it too.
UCONN is a notch above currently but they are vulnerable IMO. If Kansas can beat them and so can Seton Hall by 15 then they can lose in the tournament easily.

Some people also put Purdue or Arizona in that upper notch but I don't see it. I think both those teams are out before the Elite 8.

It’s not wide open. That’s like the go to saying when we struggle. Every year has been “wide open” since we were dominant.
I agree somewhat with that but I believe it is pretty open. I still think UConn probably rolls but I could see any of the 3 other slows go to about 30 teams.

I think it’s wide open but then again other years it’s been wide open, a 1 seed usually finds a way to win.but in those years there have usually been 4-6 teams who were clearly better than all the other teams. This year UConn & Houston are the only teams that look really impressive but they’re beatable.

Just because Purdue lost by 4 on the road doesn't make them any less a threat.

Purdue, Uconn, Houston and maybe Arizona are a notch above everyone else. And for the SEC, Tenn, Auburn and Alabama aren't too far from those four teams either.

Arizona is not a threat. Purdue is not a threat. UConn is the best team in the county by 5 possessions.

I love it. Every year Purdue gets hyped and slurped. And every single year they crash and burn. If you bet o. Purdue to win anything of merit you deserve to lose your money.

They have one dude. One. And OSU is AWFUL.

Purdue is not a threat. They’ve had Edey how long? And what has happened every single year?

Bring em on. This team still has another gear or two they can hit. I absolutely assure you every one seed is hoping not to see Kentucky in their path. The exception is Houston. They def want revenge for the 2019 Sweet Sixteen loss to us.

People said Virginia couldn't win a title because of how they played.
People said you couldn't win a title with mostly freshman and 2nd year players. Then 2012 happened.

Just because something hasn't happened in the past doesn't mean it can't happen in the future.

I don't think Purdue wins a title this season. But are they one of a handful that could win the title ? Yep sure.

And it wasn't every single year. In 21 they were a 4 seed. In 22 they were a 3 seed. Those teams weren't title contenders. It was only last year they really crapped the bed.

Today's NET shows Purdue unchanged at #2. UK, however, dropped from 21 to 22, trading places with Wisconsin. Very puzzling.
