Good memory. The win over Kansas came in December 98, 63-45.IIRC, UK had handled KU rather easily earlier in the season, Great8 perhaps?
If I recall correctly he stuck his tongue out to Turner..... who then turned it up a few notches.Classic game! It was really nice to get that win, after Boschee had his tongue out after making that 3! Loved sending them home!

That 98-99 team had a schizoid season. They beat Kansas when they were ranked 7th, they beat UCLA when they were ranked 10th, IU when they were 11th, and they beat Steve Francis led Maryland when they were #2 (and looked like world-beaters- great performance by UK that game). In conference play, they beat Auburn twice, and that was the Auburn team that finished the regular season as a #4 rated 1 seed. Yet they also lost to a bad Pitt team (by 12), a very mediocre UL team, and got swept by an unrated UT team.
The feeling that whole season was that the team was suffering from senioritis in the form of an inability to focus against lesser competition. That Kansas NCAA game was the last great hurrah for the Pitino era players (Padgett, Turner, and Heshimu Evans), and possibly the most forgotten great NCAA Tourney game that UK has played the last 20 years. Probably the best (in terms of overall quality) 2nd round game UK has ever been involved in, at least since the field expanded.

You're right. I just didn't think about that one. But far more people remember that than the Kansas game, which has pretty much faded into the mists of time. You are close. That was a classic second round game, but I think the title goes to UK/Wichita State. That was played at such a high level. Best game of the tournament IMO! Not arguing because they were both outstanding!
What a sad sad day that was.I remember it was two days after John Stewart passrd.
Yes he did! Scott hit a bunch of clutch shots in his UK career. Underrated player.Padgett came up huge.
