I'm not blaming the refs for the loss. we lost because our two best ball handlers were hurt/playing hurt. The 27 minutes Tyty was healthy, we were good enough to win. When he got hurt and when he came back in late, playing hurt. We lost the game.

Anyway...

The way the ncaa allows games to be played and the way that they allow teams to defend is making the product unbearable to watch. Four main points.

A. Last night LSU and Will Wade implemented the Rick Pitino strategy of "foul them 60 times knowing they'll never call more than 25". Consider this stat. we were in the double bonus in the first 10 minutes of the game. 10 fouls called on them in 10 minutes. Then? Poof, they only get called for 10 more fouls the final 30 minutes of the game. if that game is at rupp we shoot 50 free throws and they foul their entire team out. But at home, you can play brawl ball because college officials are afraid to get ran out of a gym.

B. the fix is simple. Adopt the NBA rules. no hands or forearms. Automatic foul if you put a hand on a driver or a forearm on a driver. You have to use your chest and body... Do that and two things happen. 1. Players stop fouling because it's much easier as a player to know what a foul is. Right now you are allowed to use your hands some. but you aren't sure how much. one ref might call a foul, the other might not. ever wonder why a ref calls a foul from across the floor when it happens right in front of another ref? Because they have two different standards for what a foul is. Remember, these crews don't work together every night like NBA crews do. 2. Ref's jobs get much easier. no more trying to figure out if a guy got pushed. hand check = foul. Forearm check = foul.

C. Why won't the ncaa let this happen? Bruce pearl actually hit on it several years ago. it really hurts the chance of an upset. Bad teams can't compete with good teams unless they're allowed to "muck up" the game. LSU was awful in the half court. Their only effective offense was to tackle one of our guys to create a turnover or on the screen and pop.

D. the product will be SO much more enjoyable to watch. NBA games go minutes without a foul. not because they don't get called, but because players don't commit them because the know exactly what they can and can't do.

Until the ncaa fixes this teams are going to look awful on the road when they shouldn't.
