Everyone is upset about Coen leaving but is his loss that big and can he not be replaced and can his replacement possibly be an upgrade?

Yes, Coen did a great job his first time here. Brought in Levis and hit gold with Levis/Wandell/CRod and a very good oline.

Last season our offense was a hugh disappointment. Coen did a very poor job with Leary who obviously had talent but was so inconsistent. Coen was the QB coach but he did not adjust the offense to maximize Leary’s strengths. Leary had so many passes batted down at LOS - maybe Coen could have rolled Leary out to minimize tipped passes.

Our run game was not that good if you take out the UF game where Ray Davis ran like a mad man.

Our WR’s were very inconsistent with so many drops and poorly run routes. (And the WR coach was Coen’s buddy - Woodward.)

Our offense was very undisciplined with numerous PF penalties and pre snap penalties.

We were TERRIBLE at getting plays called, get to line and run play before play clock expired. We were 118 - last - in plays per game. Folks that is on your OC 100%!

While I loved a lot of Coen’s play calls especially late in the year against UL & Clemson, I think his calls throughout the year, especially on 3rd & medium, where he threw bombs instead of 8-10 yard passes to get first downs were bad calls. These calls killed numerous drives all year. That is why we were ranked 75th in 3rd down conversions which led to being ranked 98th in total offense.

Coen was a very good recruiter of QB’s, WR’s and RB’s and he has a great reputation in the NFL. But it appears he could not handle the pressures of college football with NIL, transfer portal, etc.

Point of this post is that this is not all gloom & doom. The timing sucks right before signing day and close to spring practice, but we can get a good OC who wants to be college coach in the SEC.
