Hello HOB. Good Tuesday to y’all. I’m back over at the JCFTC for today’s practice wrap-up. It’s offense day, so we’ll have OC Liam Coen and select players/coaches joining us to talk about prep for Alabama. Practice is expected to end at approx 5:30 ET. Stay tuned for the latest news and notes…
LIAM COEN Q&A:
* Liam begins by saying Stoops wanted to pass along that Devin Leary is fully clear to play vs Alabama.
* Did enough to win at MSU but have to get more from the run game.
* Really have to execute against a defense like Bama. Elite pass rushers outside. Really likes the young safety, No. 2. But a team having two guys who are strong rushing off the edge really makes you come up with some things to put people in the best position to succeed. As a playcaller, have to pick and choose your spots to really drop back and go downfield.
* Good practice today. Liked the focus and energy he saw. Thinks there is a sense from the players tp prove they can get it done against a really good opponent.
* Devin had some elite ball placement at State until he got dinged up a bit.
* Asked if teams are scheming to slow Davis down, Coen says yes. That’s why they took some shots early at State to loosen things up.
* Devin has been more “slippery” than he anticipated. Has a good feel for using rushers’ momentum against them sometimes and keep a play alive.
* Are weeks like this fun? Definitely a challenge. Fun to come up with new things to give them a different look that maybe they haven’t seen.
* Frustrating that theyve been real efficient on opening drives but havent been able to maintain that consistency. Not sure why.
* Bama similar to Georgia in a lot of ways, share those traits from the Nick Sabin coaching tree. Schemes are very similar. Really respects how hard those teams play on defense. That’s the common denominator.
