Made a couple calls. Tried to persuade his “friend”. Sent rich boosters to beg a top candidate, accepted the no. Just so he could shrug his shoulders and say he tried. Hired an alumni who no one was interested in.

Pope is someone I advocated for when I was saying to just pay Cals buyout and hire a Pope type. But with our current situation you have to talk to Billy D and Pearl. Pope shouldn’t have been ahead of them on the pecking order. So what if it’s a little embarrassing if they both say no and you end up w Pope anyways.
