If he somehow turns it around and wins big with this team, then great. Everyone back on the train. But if not... If we're not playing in the second weekend of the tournament? If we're not watching basketball we can be proud of again? This has to be it. It has to be.

No more talk about the buyout. You gotta pay what you gotta pay. A mistake was already made, but that's sunk cost at this point. You can't fix the lifetime contract now. You just have to accept the mistake and pay for it. This is a tradition that's a century in the making, it predates all of us. It's worth whatever it costs to uphold it.

No more saying "Look, he's not getting fired, so we might as well just forget about that." Everything is on the table next April. Period.

No more excuses. One year can be excused. Two years is a burgeoning trend. If this year goes bad, that'll be 4 straight mediocre seasons. No excuses for 4 full years. Anyone who tries should be loudly eviscerated here.

No lowering the standards. "At Kentucky, we hang banners for Final Fours and Championships." "We're the Gold Standard." "We ARE the needle." He was right when he said that, and it's still true today. He doesn't get to change that, no one else can either. NIL doesn't matter, parity doesn't matter, etc. Things change. But Kentucky basketball is a constant amidst that change.

If we're not one of the last teams standing this year, if we're not watching exciting, highly competitive basketball that we can be proud of this year, then it's over. We should ALL be able to commit to that. This is it.
