Like everyone else I had a WTF response to the announcement of Pope as next coach. He’s not a flashy hire or considered a big name. But maybe he is what Kentucky needs. He will check some boxes that were complaints with Cal.
Recruit multi year players
Focus on the program and not pushing guys to nba
Plays a more modern style ( yes cal did this year but who knows if it would last)
Seems to play some form of defense which we have missed the last few years
The stats are not that bad for playing in big 13
Scoring defense. 69.9
Scoring offense. 81.1
Near 35% on 32 three pt attempts per game
If he’s able to get some recruits then who knows what will happen. Every coach has to get a shot to prove they are a good to great coach. Maybe this is his.
With nil now the recruiting isn’t like it was 10-15 years ago when you needed the flashy saleman to make a pitch.
